The 2023-2024 broadcast season proved to be rather ambiguous. On the one hand, it was distorted by the protracted Hollywood labor disputes of 2023 (without in any way diminishing the cause for which writers and actors were on the picket lines from May to November).
As a result, many scripted shows were canceled, and those that managed to survive the strikes were postponed for long periods of time and their new seasons were significantly shortened, affecting both the pacing and, at times, the quality of production.
On the other hand, all of the series that were delayed turned out to be a real treat, and now, four months later, traditional broadcast and streaming services have released numerous high-profile projects that have received high critical and audience acclaim.
CBS in particular stands out. Although it, like other broadcast networks, was affected by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the network has managed to release new, albeit abbreviated, seasons of some of the entertainment industry’s most popular franchises. And shows like Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon hold a special place, wrapping up stories that have been going on for years.
Now that CBS has finally announced its May schedule, let’s take a look at what to expect next month and when exactly we should anticipate the final episodes of Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon.

A Little Bit about the Upcoming Final Episodes
Young Sheldon — First, let’s talk a little bit about the popular Big Bang Theory spin-off, which was created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro from an idea by original Sheldon Cooper portrayer Jim Parsons. After all, the Season 7 finale will be released literally one day before the final episode of Blue Bloods!
As mentioned above, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the new season of the story of the nerdy wunderkind’s upbringing was cut to 14 episodes instead of the usual 22, so the finale is coming much sooner than you might think — and with it, the heartbreaking, canonical death of George Cooper Sr. However, it’s too early to be sorrowful, dear friends, as there are still a few episodes to go, including the one-hour finale episode.
In addition, a new series is in development that will be a spin-off from both TBBT and Young Sheldon and will explore the future fate of Georgie Cooper and Mandy McAllister. Not much is known about the new project, but we should probably expect cameos from the Young Sheldon cast!
Blue Bloods — Season 14 of Blue Bloods has also been a bit shorter than usual, but CBS managed to cut it down not too critically by splitting it into two halves. So technically, this is not the final conclusion of the Reagan family story, as only the mid-season finale will air on May 17. However, it does bring the plot to its logical conclusion and closes all the arcs of the previous season. It’s not yet known if there will be anything beyond Season 14, but actors like Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg are enthusiastic about a possible renewal, knowing that the writers still have more to tell and the audience demand is still high.
As for the remaining episodes of Season 14, they are scheduled for release in the fall of 2024. The second half will consist of 8 episodes.
