Don’t expect the same-old, same-old when Yellowstone at last returns for the back half of its fifth season. Not only will series lead Kevin Costner be M.I.A. as Dutton patriarch John, but Kelly Reilly’s Beth and Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler will be navigating unfamiliar terrain. This next arc, Hauser tells TV Guide, “is about picking up the pieces… putting them back together and trying to move on. My storyline is totally different. Kelly’s as well.”

With Beth’s father likely to meet his maker (here’s how), “you’re going to see a side of Rip you haven’t seen,” the actor continues. “He’s running the ranch, being supportive of Beth, helping Kayce, doing all the things that John would want. He takes the responsibility very seriously, and I love that about this year for him.”

That said, the newlyweds will find time for a little lovin’. Though Season 5A ended with Rip taking off for Texas to care for the Yellowstone’s relocated cattle (read the recap here), he and Beth “are two souls that have a hard time being away from each other,” Hauser says. “Beth doesn’t like the idea of me being down in Texas. She pulls a pretty cool trick and finds me down in the middle of nowhere.

Season 5B, which now is probably not the end of the series, premieres on Paramount Network on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 8/7c.
