Jennifer Carpenter has joined the cast of Yellowstone prequel 1923’s second season.

According to Deadline, Carpenter will be joining series regulars Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren to play the new character Mamie Fossett in streaming service Paramount+’s new episodes.

The character is described as ahead of her time for her willingness to issue warrants at will and take down anyone who opposes the Marshals.

Carpenter is probably best known for playing Debra Morgan in both the original Dexter series and its 2021 miniseries revival Dexter: New Blood.

She has had regular TV roles in the Limitless spinoff show and NBC’s short-lived spy thriller The Enemy Within, the latter of which aired for a single season in 2019. She has also starred in the classic comedy film White Chicks as well as the horror hit The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

1923 — along with 1883 — fills in the backstory of the Dutton family who feature in the modern-day show Yellowstone, with Harrison Ford playing John Dutton III’s ancestor.

The show’s time period puts the Duttons right in the middle of a complex moment of history, wedged between the end of World War I and before the onset of the Great Depression.

The period drama’s impressive cast includes Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones) as the Duttons’s arch-nemesis Banner Creighton and Timothy Dalton (James Bond) as local tycoon Donald Whitfield.

It was recently reported that 1923 is in for some significant changes in its second season as it moves fiming away from Butte, Montana, near where the show is set. Instead, the 1923 team are headed to ATX Studios in Austin, Texas to make eight more episodes.
