The 21-year-old actress began her journey in film after her sixth-grade teacher suggested she express her creativity in whatever way. She tried auditioning for years without any positive feedback.

Together with her parents, they decided that young May should school online to concentrate on acting. Six months later, her efforts paid off when she landed the role of Katie in “Alexa & Katie.”

After that, she landed a role in “Young Sheldon,” playing the love interest of Sheldon’s brother, Georgie. Other parts kept coming along, and in 2021, she was cast as Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s headstrong daughter, Elsa.

LANDING THE ROLE OF ELSA

Owing to her lack of extensive experience in film, it was a surprise that she landed the role. Opening up to EW, she disclosed just how she ended up on Taylor Sheridan’s western film.

May first met Sheridan when she auditioned for a role in his other drama film, trying out for the part of Mayor of Kingstown. While she did not land the role, Sheridan remembered her.

To her pleasant surprise, he called her a fortnight later, asking her to be Elsa. “I want you to be Elsa. We’re gonna watch this story unfold through her eyes and her perspective. I haven’t written anything, and you will receive the scripts as I go along.” He said.

PLAYING ALONGSIDE TV LEGEND, SAM ELLIOTT

Besides playing the Dutton’s daughter, May also plays alongside Sam Elliott, and she has only good things to say about him. She disclosed that working alongside the TV legend has been a surreal experience.She refers to him as the most considerate, kindest, and classiest human she ever met and says it is hard not to fall in love with him.

The Oscar-nominated icon portrays Shea Brennan, a rugged cowboy who has experienced a lot of sadness in his past. He says his role marks an enormous undertaking of his career, yet he is having the time of his life.

Before his role in “1883,” Elliott worked on other classics such as “Road House,” ” The Big Lebowski,” and “Tombstone.” He was also nominated for his role in “A Star Is Born” in 2019.
