Taylor Sheridan, with his tremendous plethora of shows and movies, is unquestionably a fan favorite. The most notable of them is the American neo-western drama Yellowstone, which premiered on the Paramount Network in 2018 and is in its fifth and final season, with the second part set to air in November of this year.
The series kept viewers intrigued by the fictional lives of Montana’s biggest ranch owners, the Duttons. Further, the sibling rivalry between Jamie and Beth Dutton is also one of several themes explored in the series, in addition to the family drama.
However, with the second half being under wraps until November, fans have had plenty of time to ponder if Jamie Dutton might be given the best arc that would even bend the knee of Beth Dutton, Sheridan’s favorite character on set.
Online theories suggest that Yellowstone could give Jamie Dutton his strongest vengeance storyline
A lawyer and business heavy hitter for Market Equities, Sarah Atwood, was brought to Montana by Caroline Warner to bring ruin to the Dutton’s. Season 5 sets things in motion when Atwood spots Jamie Dutton as the weak link to bring his father down from the position of Governor of Montana.
However, Jamie quickly begins to question her intentions for being with him, to which she responds that instead of his father, she wants him to lead the position of Governor of Montana, which of course entails overthrowing John Dutton.
Based on this knowledge, the fans on Reddit came up with their own idea to present what could truly happen to John Dutton in the upcoming part two.
The fan-generated story of John Dutton’s death and Part 2 of the show, starting with his funeral, is never-ending. One of the many reasons for this theory could be Kevin Costner’s departure from the show.
While the plotline remains unknown, Sarah Atwood’s desire to install Jamie Dutton as Governor of Montana would undoubtedly make it impossible to retain John Dutton in the picture.
So, they might try to remove John by killing him off, and to heighten the tension, they might even accuse Beth of orchestrating their father’s murder, as one Reddit user suggests.
However, despite the theories, it would be intriguing to see if Sheridan would cast Beth Dutton in such a light, given that she is a well-developed character who has spent her entire adult life physically and mentally hurting Jamie with no consequences, at least for the time being.

Beth Dutton, the only daughter of John Dutton and his late wife Evelyn, can be compared to a whirlwind that devours anybody who gets in her way. The character has no filter and commands attention from the moment she appears on the screen.
This is one of several reasons why the show’s director, Taylor Sheridan, revealed Beth to be his favorite character. In an interview with Deadline, he added
There’s no question that Beth is the toughest person on that show. She’s emboldened by the strong reputation associated with her family name, and will do or say whatever she wants
The director further continued that her character is something that he always enjoys while writing, as he can “put her in some fascinating situations,” which in the end is every writer’s dream.
While fans will have to wait until November to see the last season’s climax, only time will tell if the fan ideas are true or if the showrunners have a different perspective of their own.
