Val Kilmer, 63, returns to Hollywood in full force. The actor took a break from red carpet appearances after his battle with throat cancer, but now it’s clear he has no plans to stop again.
Kilmer has been cast in the upcoming biopic Canyon Del Muerto, which tells the real-life story of Ann Axtell Morris, one of America’s first female archaeologists and a leading discoverer of ancient cultures.

In addition to the biopic, Kilmer is preparing for the long-awaited Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Kilmer will take on the iconic role of Admiral Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Additionally, he will star alongside his daughter Mercedes in Pay Dirt, scheduled to be released in October 2020. It’s great to see Kilmer back on the big screen, because before being diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer, he was known as a handsome Hollywood actor.

His cessation of acting may have been due to side effects he suffered from a tracheostomy (a surgical procedure that connects the trachea to a hole in the front of the neck). This is a common part of treatment for nasopharyngeal cancer patients, but as a result of this procedure, Kilmer’s voice was significantly impaired. Kilmer initially kept his battle with nasopharyngeal cancer private, but after much speculation from fans, he finally shared his journey in 2017. Despite the side effects, Kilmer is clearly returning to what he loves to entertain most audiences. With three movies in the works, he’ll jump right in.

Although cancer treatment can be extremely difficult, it is important to remember that a diagnosis does not mean the end of your dreams or your life. That can be a difficult thing to remember, as going through a cancer journey can leave a lasting impact on someone’s sense of self.
