Will BLUE BLOODS Final Season Tie Up This Loose End?
As BLUE BLOODS nears the end of its final season, fans hope it will tie up some loose ends, including Erin Reagan and Jack Boyle’s relationship.
“I think that fans are going to be really left satisfied, but then also wanting more,” Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin, said of the series finale. “There’s some heartbreak and there’s some joyful news. There’s some hopeful news.”
Regarding her character’s romance with Jack, she said, “It’s so interesting, right? Your kind of first major love and the hurt and then the knowledge that that’s really like your soulmate and best friend and you keep flirting over the years. Isn’t it so much fun kind of still flirting with that bad relationship? It’s maybe not the healthiest thing for you, even in adulthood.”
Jack and Erin were previously married, and now (spoiler ahead!) Jack has been showing up to the family dinners, leaving viewers wondering where their relationship will go.
“This season he does come in a few times, and I think that people are going to be really excited about the last episode in regards to that storyline,” Moynahan revealed.
CBS canceled BLUE BLOODS last fall.
After extensive negotiations, the series was allowed to return for one final season – which got split across the spring and fall – under the condition that all the actors take a major pay cut, a stipulation they were happy to follow if it meant returning to their beloved roles.
AdvertisementDespite clamoring from the fans for more seasons and a desire from the actors to continue with the show, CBS has continued course with Season 14 ending the series despite it also ranking as one of the network’s top titles.
While rumors circulated that a different network might pick up the show, Abigail Hawk, who plays Detective Abigail Baker, said that won’t happen.
“I don’t think there’s a possibility of it going to another network – I know that there’s been a bit of chatter about that, but I don’t think that that’s a viable option given the talks that we’ve had with the cast and the producers and things like that,” she told Hello! Magazine in October.
Star Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, would be interested in a spinoff, though.
“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various spinoffs, all types of concepts of spinoffs,” he told TV Insider. “I, for me personally, would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of BLUE BLOODS and done with the care that we tried to put into BLUE BLOODS every week, it would be something that I would look forward to watching or being a part of either way.”
