Clint Eastwood has had no shortage of action-packed, violent, and thrilling scenes during his ongoing time in the film industry.
His stoic and macho characters are tough in the face of just about anything that comes their way. From “Mystic River” to “Million Dollar Baby” to “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly,” Eastwood has no shortage of epic characters.
Although these characters may often seem fearless and untouchable, Clint Eastwood once revealed that one of his movies made him particularly uneasy.
Clint Eastwood Sick to Stomach
Eastwood is the star of countless Western films and remains one of the most influential forces in the genre. He just recently released a new Western film titled “Cry Macho.”
Despite his iconic Western status, Eastwood revealed what bothered him filming “Dollars Trilogy.”
He starred in the films as the “Man With No Name.” This character was a drifter with a mysterious backstory. His habits include shooting not-so-good guys and smoking some cigarillos.
According to his biography titled “Clint: The Life and Legend,” Eastwood hated smoking those cigars. He told his director Sergio Leone “You better get it this time, because I’m going to throw up.” The tobacco from the cigarettes didn’t sit well with the actor and after too many takes he’d start to feel physically ill.
Luckily, most smoking scenes now are done with fake cigarettes or cigars. It certainly makes sense, seeing as smoking that much tobacco can have certain adverse effects for certain people.
It probably didn’t help that Eastwood would have to film three movies for that movie franchise.
Near-Death Experience for Actor
Although Eastwood hated excessive tobacco smoking and had a horse allergy, the iconic Western actor has gone through much worse during his life.
In the early 1950s, Eastwood was in the military and had hitched a ride on a bomber plane. He got on a Douglas AD plane to get to where he was going. “What was going through my mind was just a stark fear, a stark terror, because [in the] first place, I didn’t know anything about aviation at that particular time — I was just hopping a ride,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015.
The plane ended up going into the ocean and they all had to swim to safety through white shark breeding ground. Luckily, that was not common knowledge for him at the time, “I’m glad I didn’t know that at the time or I’d have just died,” the actor also said. He was on a trip home to visit his parents and girlfriend in Seattle at the time.
Clint Eastwood was drafted into the Korean War. He was stationed in Ft. Ord in California and ended up getting a job as a swimming instructor for soldiers.
