Who wouldn’t want to spend the holidays with the Reagan family?

Blue Bloods is famous for its Christmas episodes. This is one of the most consistent things when it comes to procedural dramas devoting an episode to the holiday spirit, which is both good and bad. Good in that it provides plenty of touching character moments, but bad in that it can make it difficult to choose which episode to watch come Christmas.

In an effort to spread Christmas cheer, we decided to pick an episode that stands out from the rest of the Blue Bloods Christmas episodes. The film showcases all the strengths of its main characters and encapsulates what makes the film so compelling at its core. The episode is called “Authority Figures” and was released in season 10.

“Authority Man” is a classic Blue Bloods episode

“Authority figures” have the expected amount of blue blood, as Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) are tasked with finding out who killed a tabloid journalist. It’s entertaining stuff, but the real reason to watch the episode is the realization that Danny is the Grinch come Christmas.

This isn’t particularly shocking, given how grumpy Danny can be in other aspects of his life, but it takes on new meaning when his sons, Sean (Andrew Terraciano) and Jack (Tony Terraciano) , considers him the grumpiest member of the family when the holidays are coming up.

Jack reveals that Danny told him about Santa Claus as a child, and his aunt, Erin (Bridget Moynahan), validates his theory by claiming that Danny did the same thing with her when she was little. Danny even hides Christmas presents! You might ask why this is the perfect episode to watch during the Christmas season, and it’s because Danny is finally coaxed out of his Grinch persona by the rest of the family.

Danny Reagan is treated to the Grinch family at dinner

Few things are more interesting than seeing the Reagan family on the same page, as they often struggle with turmoil and internal struggles. Of course, they have stressful jobs, but there is something undeniably satisfying about seeing different generations gather around the dinner table. It’s a Blue Bloods tradition, but the Christmas spirit really adds to its charm.

If you want more Blue Bloods holiday content, we recommend the interview above, in which Donnie Wahlberg raises the profile of the Grinch by talking about all the Christmas movies and TV shows was especially his favorite growing up. The proof is that he actually had to act during the making of the “Authority Figures” episodes.
