Val Kilmer is crazy for Cate Blanchett.
He posted a selfie on Friday, writing, “Once I flew all the way to Australia just to talk to Cate Blanchett. Her husband met me first. Or, instead, I guess, to be accurate.”
“And recently I’ve had 2 dreams with #CateBlanchett in them. Her husband wasn’t in either of them,” Kilmer, 57, added.
Kilmer then retweeted a fan’s “Woman Crush Wednesday” photo of Blanchett, 47.
He continued his shower of praise on Saturday, tweeting, “She’s just as amazing in person. Some super stars aren’t—Some superstars don’t do a thing to ya in person—Cate is so real it’s almost unreal.”
He then wrote, “Once I did a cameo just to hang w/ #cateblanchett who [picked] up a shovel in our [scene]. I was so dazzled by HOW she picked it up I forgot my line.”
Kilmer was likely referring to 2003’s “The Missing,” a Blanchett-led film in which he had a small role.
He doesn’t just admire her talent, tweeting a photo of the Australian beauty with the caption, “I mean even if she couldnt act you know what I mean?”
On Sunday night, Kilmer defended his previous tweets, writing, “I’ve never done said or written a single idea that wasn’t of the highest respect and admiration for #cateblanchett or any other great talent. She’s a friend of mine and I’ve met her husband thru the years and we’ve all gotten along just fine. Anyone who thinks I need to curb my enthusiasm for a great rare artist doesn’t understand how difficult the job is and how we artist count on the respect of our peers. She will back up every word I say n love that I say I love her. I would love an actor I didn’t even enjoy if he flew the world to talk about a role.”
When a follower replied to Kilmer and said he was being “super creepy,” he replied, “nothing in the least creepy about loving someone. What kind of world do you come from?” When the same fan noted that Blanchett’s husband, Australian playwright Andrew Upton, may not appreciate Kilmer’s commentary, he snapped, “she’s had to deal with her beauty and attraction and fame for 25 years. You think they are Quakers or something?”
Blanchett and Upton have been married since 1997 and share sons Ignatius, Roman and Dashiell Upton, and daughter Edith Upton.
Still, Blanchett and Upton may take comfort in the fact that she’s not necessarily the only object of Kilmer’s affection and fan-girling. He also wrote that he “love love love love loves” Jessica Chastain.
A rep for Blanchett didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
