Tom Selleck discusses the possibility of returning to his role as Jesse Stone after the conclusion of Blue Bloods. Selleck made his debut in the Jesse Stone movies in the 2005 TV movie Jesse Stone: Stone Cold. He continued playing the character throughout this era, with his most recent appearance being in 2015’s Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise. Selleck is also a lead character in Blue Bloods, a procedural series that wraps up its final season this year.
Speaking with TV Insider, Selleck discusses whether he would return to play Jesse Stone. The interviewer asked him what was next after the end of Blue Bloods, suggesting that a final Jesse Stone could be in order. It looks like now I might have to write [a script for another movie.]. It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it. Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later. But I need to regroup; I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing, I’m going to keep working.

Selleck Has New Opportunities After Blue Bloods
While Selleck has been a legendary actor for decades, his last several years have been consumed by Blue Bloods. The show began in 2010, going on to run for 14 seasons. As a result, audiences were very used to seeing Selleck as Frank Reagan, as filming those seasons took up a good amount of his time. Since making his Blue Bloods debut, the only other projects that Selleck has been in have been Killers, Jesse Stone: Innocents Lost, Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt, and Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise.
With Blue Bloods done filming and wrapping up its releases soon, Selleck has newfound time and thus opportunity in his career. While his quote indicates that there is no Jesse Stone movie in active development, the actor is clearly not opposed to the idea. He even goes so far as to say that there could be more than one Jesse Stone movie coming out, as he thinks that the next film for the character will not be final.

Selleck is so beloved as Frank Reagan that it will be hard for any other character to live up to this legacy post-Blue Bloods. If any Selleck character is up to the task, however, it’s Jesse Stone. I think Selleck does extremely well in procedural film and TV roles wherein he plays a recurring police character. Jesse Stone would be a chance for Selleck to play a familiar and beloved part in this vein, even after leaving Blue Bloods.
