Tom Selleck has been acting as the New York City Police Commissioner, Frank Reagan on the CBS cop drama, “Blue Bloods” for 10 years. Here is a look through his long journey on the show.
The pilot aired in 2010 and tested well with audiences as reported by Deadline in May 2010. From there, the show went on to have 10 seasons. The finale of season 10 aired in May 2020.
Selleck weighed in on whether the show would come to an end to People and said that he felt “Blue Bloods” does not necessarily have an endpoint.
He explained that it depends on how the characters are written, and a show can have a long life if the characters grow and get older in the process. He said to People:
“I think there is a lot of life in the show, as long as you let your characters grow and get older.”
The cast who make up the Reagan family has a “kinship” together, and Selleck said they are all friends. His onscreen family includes Will Estes, Bridget Moynahan, and Donnie Wahlberg.
He shared that the dinner party scenes are like reunions for the cast members. He revealed that although they all work hard on set, the directors find it hard to get them to concentrate as they are also “screwing around” and “kidding each other.”
He is an accomplished actor and has many accolades to his name.
The show has seen many ups and downs from the characters and some lovely moments onscreen. However, Selleck has shared that he does not have a favorite episode.
In a video shared on the “Blue Bloods” Twitter page, Selleck was asked his favorite episode. He answered and said he does not have a favorite episode, but he shared his favorite moment from the show:
“Special for me was being able to shoot at the 9/11 Memorial. We were the first film company to ever be able to do that.”

Another fun fact from being a part of the show and portraying a police commissioner is that sometimes he gets saluted by real NYPD members the same way they would greet the real police commissioner.
Although Selleck is well known for his role on the show, he started his TV career on “The Young and The Restless,” where he played a character named “Jed Andrews.”
He is an accomplished actor and has many accolades to his name. He guest-starred on “FRIENDS” as Dr. Richard Burke and received an Emmy nomination for the role.
Selleck’s most iconic role was as Magnum P.I. in the ’80s. The role saw him gain an Emmy and Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Drama Series.
