Danny Reagan is facing a tough challenge on Blue Bloods.

In a video sneak peak, the NYPD investigator is having a confrontation with a civilian while he’s off-duty. When the encounter gets physical, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) is forced to use his gun. It’s harrowing enough to watch him use his weapon, but what’s worse? The victim may not survive.

In the clip for the upcoming episode titled “Blues,” Danny is shown yelling at the assailant to drop the knife he’s brandishing. Not only does the stranger not listen, but he lunges at Danny with the blade.

We then fast-forward to after the incident, where Danny is relaying the face-off to his sister, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan). “He was out of his mind. He tried to stab me,” a shaken Danny tells the Assistant District Attorney. “That’s exactly why I’m here,” Erin reassures.

The tense opening turns even worse, as the video cuts to Danny with a clearly distraught woman. “You took my son’s life,” she tells him. The preview then ends with Lieutenant Gormley (Robert Clohessy) stepping into Frank Reagan’s (Tom Selleck) office. “Alright boss, we got a problem,” Gormley tells the Police Commissioner, who is perturbed with the situation.

The oldest Reagan sibling has been through quite a lot lately. Fans will never forget the tragic loss of his beloved wife, Linda Reagan, whose death was revealed during the season 8 premiere. And it was just this past week when Danny found himself clashing with his brother, Jamie Reagan (Will Estes). So far, the father of two has always persevered—and we hope he makes it through his latest hardship.
