Taylor Sheridan has left audiences hooked with his groundbreaking neo-western drama, Yellowstone that awaits to premiere the second part of its final season this fall. The popularity continued to surge throughout five seasons, with actors and supporting cast becoming a household name.

Given that the co-creator has quite a say in how characters would be portrayed, it sometimes squashes the actors’ hopes. Something similar happened to Wes Bentley, who now has a bone to pick, especially when he was enthusiastic about being a part of this project.

Wes Bentley’s Expectations for His Yellowstone Role Were Dashed!

Wes Bentley plays one of the crucial roles in Taylor Sheridan‘s Yellowstone series. He portrays Jamie Dutton, the adopted son of Kevin Costner‘s John Dutton, the family patriarch.

In an appearance at SCAD TVFest 2023, he reflected that he always wanted to be a part of Western drama, which became a reality when he was cast in the popular show.

“Much like when I got ‘Yellowstone,’ and you know I’ve always wanted to be in Westerns, my dad loves Westerns, we used to watch Westerns a lot.”

Having been adept with the genre, he expected his character to be a cowboy, which was understandable, but his hopes were squashed on getting introduced to his character.

He continued,

“I’m like, you know, I want to be a cowboy, you know? I got the Western job. I’m like, ‘Ah, I’m gonna be a cowboy dad, I’ll get to be a cowboy with Taylor Sheridan!’ And then they stick me in a suit and I get nowhere near a horse.”

Unlike other dramas, he was unable to enjoy the core Cowboy essence, thanks to his role, which is more likely seen in clean suits. However, he has still managed to enjoy his time by wearing the cowboy hat now and then while being on his on-screen family’s ranch.

Wes Bentley Talks About His Yellowstone Character

After the midseason finale, Bentley’s character decided to go against his sister, Beth Dutton (Beth Dutton), who dislikes him. While sibling rivalry is yet to reach its conclusion, he has struggled to keep himself detached from Jamie’s sadness.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he reflected on his character, sharing that he found it tricky to shake his role off.

“Jamie stays with me. I don’t always want him there! When I see people talking about Method acting, my experience is that I’m trying as hard as I can to shake him. It’s been tricky though, because of the length of time. Because of the dynamics.”

While he did succeed in drifting himself from the character, he believes that it would eventually return when he would film more scenes.

“I don’t know what they are. I’m sort of on my own here. I don’t really know what’s going on. Life happens and it drifts a bit. But I have a feeling it’s so ingrained that once we start really gearing up, it will all just come flooding back, and be overwhelming again (laughing).”

It would be interesting to witness the confrontation between the siblings as tensions escalated in the first half of Season 5. Whereas, the second part would feature around 10 episodes as per his co-star, Josh Lucas.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 is currently set to be released on November 2024 whereas the rest of the show can be streamed on on Peacock.
