“They Could Age Him A Bit”: Taylor Sheridan Won’T Have To Kill Off Kevin Costner’S ‘Yellowstone’ Character If He Goes Down One Path

Yellowstone has been regarded as one of the best Western series of all time. Despite this high status, the series has been getting quite a lot of negative press in the past few months. Ever since rumors started to float that Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan were at odds with each other and the haziness of the actor’s return to the series, fans have been wondering about what will happen to John Dutton.

While many expect there to be a significant decrease in how much the character will appear in the series, others wonder if Costner will even come back at all. If the latter theory is to be believed, one possibility could save the character.

What Will Yellowstone Do Now?

John Dutton is the protagonist of Yellowstone. He plays the role of the family patriarch, and his interactions are always integral to the story of the series as a whole. With this in mind, it would be difficult for the series to continue its story without the character.

If Kevin Costner comes back, there will be nothing better in the eyes of the fans. However, if he continues to focus on his new, Horizon saga, and lets go of Sheridan’s world, there may be another approach that the series could take to continue the character’s story, and the answer is right in front of our eyes.

Nicky9712, a fan on Reddit, mentioned the perfect approach that the series could take, and it involved a different face playing the beloved Dutton.

A Perfect Solution For Yellowstone

The fan suggested that the series find an actor who has already played the role of John Dutton and did an excellent job at that. Although Kevin Costner played the character for the vast majority of the show, there were some scenes that he was unable to act in; the flashbacks. For a younger John, Sweet Home Alabama actor Josh Lucas was hired.

The casting was impeccable, with the actor being perfect for the role and doing an excellent job imitating the character that Costner shaped for years. He was able to encapsulate the essence of the character as a whole, having an accurate stride and being a perfect replica of Costner.

The age difference between Costner and Lucas is sixteen years. If the series manages to age Lucas up a little bit, they would be able to make him play the current version of John Dutton, and fans would not have to notice the character’s absence from the series.
