The pirate movie was originally intended for Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, but ultimately couldn’t be made because of this. Renowned director Giuseppe Colizzi died in 1978 at the age of 53. Giuseppe’s death due to a series of heart problems prevented him from making another film with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, despite the work’s script.
This has also been completed, as we can learn from Király Levente’s fasc inating book, The Invincible Couple. Giuseppe Colizzi’s son, Alessandro, was only sixteen years old at the time.
“My dad also wrote a pirate movie for them that was never actually filmed. The script is great and there are three versions: one for the couple, one for Bud and one for Terence.”
Alessandro Colizzi said. His father said the following about the project in a 1974 interview:
“I’m making a pirate movie that we shot in the Antilles: it’s going to be in the 1600s genre. Do you remember François l’Olonnais (infamous 17th-century pirate of the Caribbean – editor), the 17th century pirates of the West Indies, or pirates of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean? I want to tell their actions from the other side. I found some good stories in some of the minor English writers of the time. It might be titled: We, Pirates. 1974 will be the year of piracy on the Italian screen.”
In the end, nothing went as planned. Unlike Joe and Margherito Arrival, which he envisions starring Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, he ended up having to hire other actors instead.
