Newest Blue Bloods Update Teases The Show’S Potential Continuation

On February 16, the new season (or rather, the first half of it) of Blue Bloods hit our small screens, slowly but surely bringing the saga of the Reagan family to a close. While some people questioned the decision of renewing the show for at least one more season when last season’s episodes were released, for many of us, the news that Season 14 would be the last was devastating.

After all, the cop drama has been a staple of Friday night television for an incredible thirteen full years. But all things must come to an end, and it’s finally time for Blue Bloods to make way for new, more ambitious projects.

There is a chance, however, that Blue Bloods will stay on television for some time to come, as Donnie Wahlberg has hinted. Let’s find out what he said and how likely it is.

The Actor Who Plays Danny Has Hinted at a Possible Follow-up

Blue Bloods fans are probably already aware that the cast and crew took a voluntary pay cut in order for Season 14 to see the light of day. While not all of them are open to the possibility of another renewal, they have all grown incredibly close over the years, becoming a real family, and were willing to commit to at least one more season to give their characters and the audience a proper and perhaps even definitive ending.

But some are still keeping their minds open to the possibility of a return. In January, Tom Selleck shared that he is well aware that many people are not ready to let go of the story and are hoping for a sequel in one form or another.

‘CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it. The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas,’ he told TV Insider.

But back to the actor who plays the role of Danny Reagan, Donnie Wahlberg. Not too long ago, he and his New Kids on the Block buddies appeared on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, where the host apparently asked questions about the future of Blue Bloods and the new seasons.

‘Potentially,’ he replied laconically, not giving a definitive answer, but giving us no small amount of hope. ‘There are rumblings, so we’ll see what happens.’

In turn, Jordan Knight said in jest that there will be a spin-off with Donnie after the Blue Bloods finale. Joking aside, who knows — maybe old Commish Reagan will retire, and his son will become the new NYPD Commissioner.

Maybe We’ll See Some Star Cameos!

But those aren’t the only details about Blue Bloods that Andy Cohen has uncovered. According to Wahlberg, he has been trying for years to get the executive producers to guest star his fellow New Kids, most notably Joey McIntyre.

‘Our executive producer said, “If this is the last year, is there a bucket list item you want?” I said, “Yes. Get freaking Joey on the show because you told me you were gonna get him on the show a decade ago and we’re still waiting,” so we’ll see.’

Not that McIntyre himself sounded overly excited, though.

‘I don’t know. If he has to take my face and put it up against a car window or something like that. You know what I mean? We gotta have some soft boundaries around the role.’

But don’t get ahead of yourself just yet, because we still have the entire Season 14 of Blue Bloods to look forward to! The new fifth episode airs Friday, April 5 at 10/9c on CBS.
