A wild stunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two has franchise star Tom Cruise walking on the outside of an airplane in mid-air. The long-running action-adventure spy franchise will see its conclusion with the upcoming two-part entry. Although major plot details have not been revealed, early trailers and official set photos have teased some of the franchise’s biggest action set pieces yet.

While speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference (via Deadline), Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish teased a wild stunt from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two that has Cruise walking on the outside of a plane in mid-air. The exec praised Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, calling it “insane” and a “thrill ride.” He carried the praise over to the finale and shared a few details regarding the upcoming dangerous stunt. Read what Bakish said below:

“Tom’s walking on the outside of an airplane — in the air, not on a green screen. It’s quite the ride.”

Tom Cruise’s Plane Scene In Mission: Impossible 8 Explained

Cruise has a penchant for the bombastic in his action-adventure films, continuously pushing cinema to reach new heights with thrilling sequences grounded in realism. The actor challenges himself with every entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise, where he scales the tallest building in the world, breaks an ankle during an attempt to leap from one rooftop to another, and sets a record for the longest breath-hold while filming an underwater scene in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. However, his record was subsequently broken by Kate Winslet in Avatar: The Way of Water, where she held her breath for over seven minutes.

Newly shared set photos from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two shows that Cruise has again attempted to create the most elaborate stunts on film. Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie took to social media to tease the new stunts, with a behind-the-scenes image of filming a V-22 Osprey while in mid-air, as well as a photo taken from the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier, giving thanks to people in the military that committed their time to the project. The images correspond with a recent report that had the film engaged in a “complex shoot” off the coast of Italy.

The upcoming stunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two may see Cruise take to the skies in the tilt-rotor V-22 aircraft. Due to the vehicle’s ability to hover like a helicopter, the production can manipulate the Osprey to move at speeds comfortable for Cruise to perform the elaborate sequence. The death-defying airplane stunt is just one of many expected action sequences in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.
