Michelle Pfeiffer’S Yellowstone Spinoff Breaks A Taylor Sheridan Neo-Western Franchise Trend

The Yellowstone universe is expanding with a spinoff starring Michelle Pfeiffer (The Madison), an upcoming TV show that will be a breath of fresh air in the franchise. Taylor Sheridan launched this neo-Western universe when he co-created the original series with John Linson in 2018. Ever since its premiere, Yellowstone’s popularity has been continually rising. As a result, Paramount has ordered various spinoffs that will keep the franchise alive long after the parent show ends (which might not be as soon as previously thought because reports claim that Yellowstone season 6 is in the works without Kevin Costner).

As of the writing of this article, two Yellowstone spinoffs have aired — 1883 and 1923 — while three are reportedly on the way. However, there has been a pattern with the already-aired spinoffs that The Madison is set to break when it debuts. Whereas the previous two Yellowstone TV shows h ave taken viewers back in time to different generations of the Dutton family, Pfieffer’s upcoming series will remain in the present.

Michelle Pfeiffer’s The Madison Is Yellowstone’s First Modern Spinoff
1883 & 1923 Are Prequels

Both 1883 and 1923 serve as prequels to Yellowstone’s story. Meanwhile, The Madison’s modern timeline makes it a sequel series, the first of its kind in the franchise. Even though one other upcoming modern spinoff (6666) was announced before the Michelle Pfeiffer show, The Madison actually has a confirmed cast, filming start date, and targeted release date (unlike 6666). By all accounts, it appears as if The Madison will debut before 6666, making it Yellowstone’s first modern spinoff.

Aside from Pfeiffer as Stacy Clyburn, the cast of The Madison includes Matthew Fox as Paul, Patrick J. Adams as Russell McIntosh, Elle Chapman as Paige McIntosh, and Beau Garrett as Abigail Reese. The upcoming neo-Western drama series follows Pfeiffer’s Stacy, a rich matriarch who moves herself and her family from New York City to the Madison River valley of central Montana after an unexpected tragedy. Based on the premise, it sounds as if The Madison’s timeline will fall in line with Yellowstone’s, separating itself from the spinoffs that came before it.

How The Madison Separates Itself From Yellowstone
The Spinoff’s Family Is Much Different Than The Duttons

Not only will The Madison be the first of its kind regarding the timeline of the spinoffs, but it will also be quite different from Yellowstone itself. Of course, the upcoming series will also primarily take place in Montana. However, the characters won’t be anything like the Dutton family. Most of The Madison’s characters are moving from New York to Montana, while the Duttons were born and raised in the northwestern mountain state. The spinoff tells a fish-out-of-water story, which will undoubtedly make it stand out in the Yellowstone universe.
