Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone used to be hailed as one of the best neo-westerns to have ever been produced. At least, until people started noticing some patterns in the show that seemed way too similar to Sheridan’s other shows.
Although most people were still appreciative of the series due to its premise, unfortunately without a substantial story, and dialogues to hold it up, that too fell apart. In fact, the show ultimately turned into a preach-fest with corny dialogues.
It turns out, though, that even though fans might have noticed it too late, Sheridan himself forewarned the show’s future with a particular scene in Season 3. The cheesy lines in that scene would go down in history as some of the cringiest ever.
Yellowstone Season 3 warned fans of the show’s future with a specific scene
Although Kelly Reilly gave a masterful performance as Beth Dutton in Yellowstone, her character often became a vessel for the writer’s tough guy persona to shine through. As such, even with her stellar performance, her dialogues turned out to be some of the cringiest ones in the show.
Moreover, even though it felt like the show was on a decline in the latter seasons, it turns out the show always had cheesy dialogues and the fans just noticed it now. If anything, at least a particular scene from Yellowstone Season 3 should have been enough proof of that all this time.
Although the show had many preachy moments, perhaps nothing could top the conversation Beth had with Roarke at the bar. Basically, their meeting was regarding Schwartz and Meyer influencing Market Equities’ stocks to decline, with Roarke asking her why she was “poking a grizzly”.
Especially because according to Roarke, Beth and the Duttons would eventually end up losing their land anyway if they engaged in a battle with them. Beth noted that while she understands and agrees with him, her father John Dutton (Kevin Costner) would never concede to that.
Hence, whatever may come they would fight. Although their conversation had been mostly flowing smoothly up until then, things take a turn when Roarke Carter (Josh Holloway) asks her before leaving “Think you’re up for this fight, Beth? You have no idea how wrong you are.”
Reilly’s Beth Dutton’s reply to that arguably had been one of the cringiest moments in the series. She replied,
Well, right back at ya. You’re the trailer park, I’m the tornado.
Although the scene had obviously been around for ages, it seems like a lot of people are just now noticing how off-putting that dialogue was. However, with more people complaining about Taylor Sheridan’s shows recently, maybe fans looking back and finding faults in Yellowstone, is not that surprising.
Fans disappointed with Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone
As stated above, fans have been complaining about Taylor Sheridan‘s TV shows for quite a while. Be it his recent show Landman or Yellowstone, fans have called out bad writing on both shows.
Moreover, for someone who boldly stated he hated movies or shows preaching to him, he seems to have ventured down that path himself with these shows.
Recalling Beth Dutton’s dialogue from Season 3, episode 5 just reminded people that this has been going on for a while now. At any rate, fans didn’t shy away from expressing their disappointment on Reddit by stating just how corny that dialogue sounded.
In any case, many fans have claimed that his 1923 seems to be finally turning the tide on his writing. People especially seem to be appreciative of Harrison Ford’s acting in the second season of 1923.
Only time will tell, though, if Sheridan finally manages to gain his fans back. For now, though, the chances of that seem pretty low.
