What To Know About Lawmen: Bass Reeves
The series was originally titled 1883: The Bass Reeves Story and described as a spinoff of 1883, which itself is a prequel to Yellowstone. However, the series has since dropped 1883 from its title and is now called Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Paramount has officially clarified that the show is not a spinoff of 1883 nor a part of the Yellowstone franchise in any way. The show does still take place around the same time period as 1883, as Bass Reeves served as a U.S. Marshal from 1875 to 1907.
Unlike the Yellowstone franchise, Lawmen: Bass Reeves is about a real person from American history and an anthology series, subsequent seasons will follow other iconic lawmen from history. Bass Reeves is a worthy subject for the first season, as he is one of the most legendary lawmen from the Old West and greatest frontier heroes in American history. The wait to see his story depicted on screen is almost over, as Lawmen: Bass Reeves premieres on Paramount+ in two months’ time.
