Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner settled their divorce in 2023 and they’ve both moved on to new romances. The 69-year-old actor is reportedly dating singer Jewel while his ex-wife is enjoying the company of financier Josh Connor. Things seem a bit complicated with Baumgartner’s choice of boyfriends though, and Costner reportedly has some thoughts.
It’s awkward because Connor and his ex-wife were neighbors of Costner, and the two couples were friendly in the past after their daughters bonded. So, it’s natural for anyone to react to this situation, especially when there are unfounded rumors of an affair. An OK! Magazine source shared the Yellowstone star’s reported reaction behind the scenes, noting that their pal found “the whole thing hilarious” — and it has everything to do with finances.
“Kevin just hopes Josh has deep pockets because Christine has expensive taste,” the insider added while making some unverified accusations against Costner’s ex. “Christine’s training her new man to finance her lavish lifestyle. He’s pay ing for everything, dinners out, vacations, gifts.” This news feels like some residual resentment from Costner and Baumgartner’s drawn-out court battle after the former purse designer challenged the prenuptial agreement she signed ahead of their 2004 wedding.
Costner was ordered to pay Baumgartner $63,209 per month in child support for their three kids, Cayden Wyatt, 16, Hayes Logan, 15, and Grace Avery, 13. That was a significant reduction from the $175,057 per month she was asking for, according to People, and the prenup was strictly enforced. California family law attorney David Glass spoke to the media outlet about how this financial situation didn’t work out in Baumgartner’s favor whatsoever.
“People go to court and then if one party does not do well, which Mrs. Costner didn’t do well, she got a third of the (child) support she wanted. She didn’t get her award for fees. She was told that the prenuptial agreement was going to be upheld,” he noted. “Then she starts considering, do I really want to litigate the rest of this?” For Costner, Glass believed that the divorce surrounding the drama was likely “just a money situation. How much is it going to cost for him to go all the way through trial? How much time, how much pressure on him and distraction from his career and his kids, versus what could he pay to be done with it?”
With those legal issues out of the way, Costner isn’t looking back because the court has spoken.
