“It’s a series that is loved”… Will Blue Bloods get a spin-off?
After 14 years of good and loyal service, and no less than 285 episodes, Blue Bloods will bow out at the start of the next school year on CBS. The detective series led by Tom Selleck was in fact canceled last November by the American channel despite the audience success of the fiction.
It is in fact the third most watched drama on CBS with 9.54 million viewers. A figure which rises to 11 million thanks to replay. Since the announcement of this cancellation, fans and actors of Blue Bloods have united in the hope that the network will reverse its decision.
In addition to the “#SaveBlueBloods” campaign led on social networks by fans, the stars of the series – including Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg – had expressed their desire to continue the series. Unfortunately, CBS remained its position, and confirmed that the detective series would not return for an additional season.
Soon a spin-off?
Despite the cancellation of Blue Bloods, fans, who had become attached to the Reagan family, continued to hope that a spin-off would see the light of day. In June 2024, the CEO of Paramount Global, Brian Robbins, made a statement to our colleagues at TVLine which left the door open to a possible spin-off series.
“As far as television is concerned, several projects linked to the Dexter, Billions and Blue Bloods franchises are under development,” he explained, suggesting that a spin-off could see the light of day. Unfortunately, according to information from Deadline, this spin-off series is not ready to see the light of day…
“We don’t have anything in development at the moment, but it’s a brand, a title and a series that is loved,” David Staff, president of CBS studio, declared to our colleagues.
“We have to get it right, so we’re taking our time and trying to figure out what the next iteration of Blue Bloods could be,” he added. With the final eight episodes of the detective series scheduled to air starting this fall on CBS, “we still have a whole season left and we fully intend to celebrate the series properly, so we still have time to think about all that.” To be continued…
