As Blue Bloods heads into the last season, fans can expect to see a few familiar faces before the long-running CBS series takes its final bow. At least one alum has been confirmed to return so far, and the cameo could lead Donny Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, into a moral dilemma. Keep reading to see who is returning to Blue Bloods in Season 14.
Blue Bloods is CBS’ popular police procedural. It focuses on the fictional Reagan family who have a long history with law enforcement. The series first premiered in September 2010 and has anchored CBS’ Friday night lineup since its debut. It stars Wahlberg, Tom Selleck, Will Estes, Bridget Moynahan, Abigail Hawk, Vanessa Ray and more. In November 2023, it was announced that the upcoming Season 14, which will air in two parts, will be the show’s final season.
While fans are heartbroken by the news, they can rest assured knowing Season 14 will be Blue Bloods‘ “most satisfying season yet,” as CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios president David Stapf said in a joint statement, per Deadline. The final season will likely feature a slew of great guest stars as well as some returning stars, and the first familiar face has been confirmed. According to the newly released logline for the Season 14 premiere, Malik Yoba will be returning as Darryl Reid, Danny Reagan’s former partner.
Yoba made his first and only appearance during the Season 6 episode “Flags of Our Fathers.” In the episode, Darryl was accused of planting evidence to make sure a murderer was convicted of a heinous double homicide and, as a result, Danny was questioned by the District Attorney. Throughout the episode, viewers saw Danny grapple with turning his old partner in, and consequently letting a murderer walk. When an “eye witness” came forward, however, he knew the testimony was coerced by Darryl and he morally could not stand by it.
In the Season 14 premiere episode titled “Loyalty,” Danny and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) will investigate another homicide connected to Darryl. While CBS has not revealed if he is connected in a good or bad way, Darryl’s history of tampering with evidence has us thinking it’s the latter. However, the last incident clearly didn’t ruin Darryl’s life as he is pictured in new photos from the premiere with a son.
Elsewhere in the episode, Jamie (Will Estes) goes undercover with a deadly human trafficking ring and seemingly has tension with Hader (played by guest star Aaron Abrams). Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) also questions whether to publicly support Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) on a policy decision.
