Tom Selleck’s milestone 80th birthday is just around the corner, and the Blue Bloods actor revealed how he will be celebrating the occasion.
During a recent interview with Parade, Tom, 79, was asked if he had any plans for his birthday, which is on January 29.
“None whatsoever. I’m trying not to count,” he admitted. “I stopped celebrating birthdays a while back. I intend to keep working.”
But the Magnum, P.I. actor, who has been married to Jillie Mack since 1987, said that he would probably spend time with his family on his big day.
“I’ll probably have dinner with maybe my brother and my sister and Jillie, just go out to dinner, kind of be quiet and not make a big deal of it,” he remarked.
Ahead of his 80th birthday, Tom has been adjusting to a huge change in his life – the cancellation of the beloved CBS series Blue Bloods after 14 seasons. Tom outwardly voiced his “frustration” with the network ending the crime drama.
Tom admitted there were some things he was still getting used to, like not seeing his costars every day.
“The hardest thing I would say at this point [is] right now, this time of year, I would be shooting episodes of Blue Bloods, and I miss that,” he told Entertainment Weekly in December 2024. “The thing that tugged at me most in adjusting and will continue is the family of actors we had and the friendships we formed. And you always say it’s kind of like high school graduation. Everybody says they’ll keep in touch and things happen. Well, that happens in movies too. You say you do a movie, establish relationships, and then it’s over.”
“This is a more complicated one. It’s a 15-year relationship with most of those people, and it just doesn’t go away that fast. It’s hard — on a movie, you always say, ‘Well, let’s get together,’ and then you get busy or you work somewhere else and a couple of years go by, but this is just a bigger adjustment.”
But sources say the Blue Bloods crew is already making plans to get together again soon and he’s got a lot to look forward to.
“He’s seen and lived through a lot, and he feels rather fortunate to be here to talk about it,” a source told Closer earlier this month. “Sure, he wasn’t happy with Blue Bloods getting canceled, but he wants to focus on the positive and ring in 80 with smiles and laughter and not dwell on the negative stuff.”
The TV icon is counting his blessings, which includes making memories with Jillie, 67, and their daughter, Hannah Selleck.
“His wife and daughter are planning a big celebration at the farm with friends over to celebrate Tom and toast to his health and maybe roast him a little, too, all in good fun,” the insider said.
The insider dished that some of Tom’s Blue Bloods costars would likely be invited to the low-key celebration at his 63-acre avocado ranch in Ventura County, California.
“No doubt, some people from the show will be invited, like Donnie [Wahlberg] and Bridget [Moynahan], which Tom will like very much. They’re all like family to him,” the source said of the potential Blue Bloods reunion.
