How Harrison Ford Helped His 1923 Costar Through A Difficult Season 2 Scene: “He Kissed Me On The Cheek”

1923 star Brian Geraghty details the touching way co-star Harrison Ford helped him through a particularly tough scene. Star Wars legend Ford was brought on to give Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel some star power, alongside Oscar-winner Helen Mirren. 1923 season 2 brings back both Ford and Mirren as embattled husband-and-wife ranchers Jacob and Cara Dutton, along with a solid supporting cast that includes Geraghty as Zane Davis, the Duttons’ loyal ranch foreman.

His 1923 role as Jacob’s able employee actually led to Geraghty sharing one touching moment with Ford, as he related recently in an interview with ScreenRant, detailing how the older star helped him get through a difficult scene…by kissing him on the cheek.

Yeah, he’s just such a supportive actor, and he’s always there with you. We had a nice scene that was difficult; a full day of work, and he was just emphatically supportive. When we got it done, we both felt like we succeeded, and he was really complimentary. It was a dream.

I think he kissed me on the cheek and went, “Great work today!” We knew we had a lot of stakes to complete, but also just that feeling was… Well, it’s Harrison Ford! I’m just grateful I got to spend some time with him.

Geraghty also recalled some of the funny lines Ford uses to let the director know he and his fellow actors are prepared to shoot:

And he’s funny. He has a famous line: “Let’s shoot this piece of s–t!” That’s his famous line. That’s what he says, or “Acting department’s ready!” He speaks for all of us, so they know we’re ready to go. Everyone laughs, and I think they’re making a shirt about it or something.

What This Means For 1923
Ford’s Veteran Presence Is Proving Invaluable

Ford’s Jacob is a key player in the drama set to unfold in 1923 season 2, and audiences can expect top-notch work from Ford, who has grown as an actor according to his co-star Mirren. Just how much Ford has grown was related by Mirren in a talk with WSJ earlier this month, when she spoke on the source of her co-star’s increasingly sensitive acting, referring back to a 1923 season 1 scene that saw Ford’s character bloodied and near death – and how the scene paralleled Ford’s real-life 2015 plane crash:

“He’s been carried into the kitchen, dying and covered in blood, and later Harrison did say to me, ‘That was how I was after the accident.’ I think, maybe, going through that experience just gave him a very different understanding of what it is to be a sentient human being.”

1923 star Brandon Sklenar echoed Mirren’s sentiments about Ford, applying them also to Mirren, in a 2024 interview with People where he talked about about the wisdom his veteran co-stars have imparted to him:

To see people at their level and to be able to maintain such a deep level of humility and humanity and kindness is something that I’ll take with me forever because they are both just really special human beings and I think that that’s reflective in their work and how they’re revered by audiences and have been revered for so many years.

Geraghty’s latest remarks only serve to re-emphasize what an important presence Ford is among the cast of 1923. In addition to the wisdom and experience he brings to the table, he also brings a supportive nature, and some amusing granddad jokes to help lighten the mood when needed.

Our Take On Ford’s Contribution To 1923
Ford Gave The Show Instant Credibility

Recently-released 1923 season 2 trailers confirm that the drama will continue for the Duttons when the Paramount+ show returns. Drama is what the Sheridanverse is all about, and having an actor of Ford’s stature in the cast lends the proceedings a credibility that is hard to obtain otherwise. In addition to bringing more eyes to the show, thanks to his legendary status, Ford plays a great behind-the-scenes role, helping everything run smoothly from a production point-of-view.
