Donnie Wahlberg is not ready to say goodbye to his Blue Bloods character, Danny Reagan, just yet. He hinted that he is still holding out hope for a potential spinoff series or movie.
On December 6, Donnie, 55, took to X to share his enthusiasm for fans to watch the penultimate episode of Blue Bloods airing on CBS.
“Only two #BlueBloods episodes left – the first of those two begins right now! Let’s get to it!” he wrote, to which one fan replied, “Thank goodness for reruns.”
He responded back, saying, “True. or even spinoffs.”
Another person wrote, “Maybe there can be a #Bluebloods movie with a ton of sequels!!! I would go see that #Bluebloods.” Donnie responded, writing, “I like that plan.”
After the second-to-last episode of the series aired on television, the New Kids on a the Block singer shared a message for Blue Bloods fans.
“Dearest Blockheads, We have one Friday left, until there are no Fridays left. You know I’m already working on what’s coming up, for us to enjoy together, next. Til then, let’s grab the tissues and tweet our fingers off, all night, during next Fridays #BlueBloodsFinale.”
It seems like Donnie already has some other projects in the pipeline once the Blue Bloods finale airs on December 13. Now, only one episode remains in the show’s final season and fans are hoping that CBS will announce a spinoff series sometime soon.
Donnie is just one of the cast members who has made it abundantly clear that he would be interested in a spinoff if the opportunity was presented to him.
“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various spinoffs, all types of concepts of spinoffs. I, for me personally, would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and done with the care that we tried to put into Blue Bloods every week, it would be something that I would look forward to watching or being a part of either way,” he told TV Insider on October 17. “I’ve heard stories of prequels, sequels, you name it. For me personally, I love the show. I’ve enjoyed working on it for 14 years and like I said, whatever comes next, as long as it has family at its core and the spirit of Blue Bloods, then I’m all for it.”
Just recently, Tom Selleck also addressed speculation about whether or not he was interested in a spinoff of the widely popular police drama.
“I’m open to suggestions because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked,” he told Parade on December 6. “I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere. If he goes off to a small town, I’d rather do more Jesse Stone movies.”
It would certainly be interesting to see if any spinoff shows are pitched with any of the Blue Bloods characters. It seems like season 14 could be setting Jamie Reagan and Eddie Janko-Reagan up for life as parents, while fans are hoping Danny takes his friendship to the next level with Maria Baez.
