Donnie Wahlberg hinted that there might be some beloved Blue Bloods stars who will make appearance on his new offshoot series, Boston Blue.
Donnie, 55, expressed how thrilled he was to be continuing the legacy of the Reagan family in the new show in the caption of his Tuesday, March 25, Instagram post featuring a teaser trailer of Boston Blue.
In the comments section of the post, Will Hochman praised Donnie on his latest project, writing, “Legendary!” with three crown emojis.
Donnie replied to Will’s comment, writing, “@willhochman my guy – counting on you to come visit your uncle on screen!”
Will responded to Donnie’s comment, saying, “@donniewahlberg I’m fueling up the Chevelle as we speak!”
Fans were loving the interaction, hoping that it means they’ll get to see Will’s Blue Bloods character, Joe Hill, appear on Boston Blue in the future alongside Danny Reagan.
One person wrote, “@willhochman Hopeful you will pay him a visit!!! Work a hot case!!” while another said, “@donniewahlberg yes please make this happen.”
Another person wrote, “@donniewahlberg OMG! I was hoping you would take him with you to Boston and you would work as a team! In the BB finale they mentioned Jamie’s baby is due in June! Can you have a family reunion with your entire BB family to meet the new baby? Can we see you visit the entire BB family for Thanksgiving and Xmas? What a great crossover!!! A NY BB meets Boston!!! So much fun!”
Another fan enthusiastically wrote, “@willhochman THIS I’m excited to see!!” while another wrote, “@donniewahlberg you both are THE BEST!”
Additionally, someone else wrote, “Tell me Jamie is coming with you,” referring to Will Estes’ Blue Bloods character, Jamie Reagan. Donnie replied, writing, “He’d better come visit his big brother.”
Someone asked if Jamie would be bringing his baby with him in Boston Blue if he does end up appearing. In the Blue Bloods season 14 series finale, Jamie and Eddie Janko-Reagan announced that they were expecting their first child together.
“Can’t wait. I do hope some of the old cast makes some appearances. Still so sad that Blue Bloods has ended. Still miss it so much,” another fan commented on the post, to which Donnie replied, “same same!” with a winky face emoji and a blue heart.
“I wish it was the entire family that’s what made blue blood work not just 1 character,” someone else commented. Donnie responded, writing, “tune in.”
“Hope we see Baez on this new journey,” one person said, referring to Danny’s partner, Maria Baez. Donnie simply replied with a winky face emoji.
The Blue Bloods series expansion was officially announced last month. The show will be hitting the CBS lineup in the fall and will feature Danny navigating his new job in Boston as a member of the Boston PD.
Donnie initially said he would only like to continue the Blue Bloods franchise if the core values of the show remained the same.
“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various spinoffs, all types of concepts of spinoffs,” he told TV Insider in October 2024. “I, for me personally, would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and done with the care that we tried to put into Blue Bloods every week, it would be something that I would look forward to watching or being a part of either way.”
