Blue Bloods fans were shocked to see Erin Reagan and Jack Boyle back together without any context during the penultimate episode of the show.
In one scene in season 14, episode 17, Erin, played by Bridget Moynahan, walked with her arm linked through Jack’s arm. Jack is played by Peter Hermann and has been making appearances in episodes of the show from 2012 to now. However, this scene was a bit shocking because Erin alluded to the fact that she and Jack were officially back together.
Erin began talking about how she tried to set Anthony Abetemarco up on a date with Deanne Johnson, played by Amanda Kloots. Anthony, played by Steve Schirripa, got mad at Erin for meddling in his business and making things awkward between him and Deanne. Erin leaned on Jack for advice on how to fix the situation.
“I don’t even know why I got involved. I mean maybe it’s because things have been going so well between us and I wanted to spread the wealth,” Erin told Jack.
“I’m still trying to picture a woman flirting with Anthony,” Jack replied.
It’s nice to see Erin happy, but it just feels like there was zero backstory as to how she and Jack were able to patch things up. It appears their reconciliation happened offscreen.
“Since when is matchmaker one of your skills,” Jack asked Erin, to which she replied, “What do you mean? I got us together.”
Erin then recalled the story of when she first met Jack on a basketball court.
“Don’t you remember I spoke to you first when we met on that basketball court,” she said. Jack replied, “Yeah after the ref called you for charging. You yelled, ‘In your face, Boyle.’”
“I just remember things completely differently,” Erin said, to which Jack responded, “Yeah and actually I was the one who then fake twisted my ankle so that I could talk to you afterwards.”
Jack urged her to make things right with Anthony and Deanne because Anthony is “like family” to her. She set up a date for Anthony and Deanne to make things right, much to Anthony’s surprise. Still, we didn’t learn much more about her relationship with Jack other than the fact that they’re back on good terms.
Fans left comments on the Blue Bloods official Instagram account about Erin and Jack’s reunion and not seeing a whole lot of their reconciliation this season. In one comment, one person wrote, “A lot more of Jack and Erin , PLEASE….Nothing since the beginning of this last season…..very disappointing.”
“I wish they could have made these last few episodes more on the personal lives of the family. Wish there was more Joe Hill and more Erin and Jack,” one person commented, referencing the fact that Joe Hill wasn’t even in the penultimate episode at all.
Another person said, “I cant believe this show is over and we barely get jack and erin and more joe.”
“Does anyone really care if Jack and Erin are a ship??! They haven’t been since the series began. Will they become so in the last two episodes!!! Strangest writings !!!!!” another person said.
Perhaps the most shocking part of all is that the series is winding down, and none of the storylines feel very personal to the Reagans.
“Couldn’t care less about Erin and Jack, not as if they’ve been together as regulars, and now at the end give Anthony a girlfriend after all these years? If this is your idea of wrapping the show up so everyone lives happily after, apart from fans of the show, then I call it [poop emoji]” someone else wrote.
And other people felt the exact same way about the second-to-last episode.
“Have the day disappointing the 2nd last episode was blah,” another person said. “Only silver lining was seeing some potential romance for Anthony ….. but too little too late. And Erin and her ex together was nice to see too. But no joe? I enjoyed the Friction with Jamie and badilo. Honestly was hoping for some familiar faces or past cases. Maybe a spark between Danny and Baez ??? Here’s hoping the finale goes out with a bang !!!!”
