Fans and Tom Selleck have called for CBS to change their minds on Blue Bloods’ future, as the final season nears.
Blue Bloods is about to launch its 14th and final season, but Tom Selleck is not quite ready to say goodbye.
In a new interview, Tom, who plays Commissioner Frank Reagan, admitted that he doesn’t think the show is past its prime for fans or himself.
He told TV Insider: “CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it.
“The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year.
“We’re certainly not out of ideas.”
In November 2023, CBS revealed that the final season of Blue Bloods would be split into two parts.
The final season will premiere on February 16, with the second part airing in the fall of 2024.
The actor does not sound like someone ready to say farewell to a show that first hit the airwaves in 2010.
He said: “I’m not counting the days so I can do something else.
“I love the work. Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so wh at? I want to work as long as they’ll have me.”
At the time, Tom was devastated at hearing CBS’ decision and shared a statement with fans.
He wrote: “For the past 13 years it has been an honour and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City but also displays the importance of family.
“Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes.
“Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”
However, not all hope is lost as showrunner Kevin Wade noted to TV Insider that the show’s ending isn’t set in stone yet.
Cast member Will Estes is hopeful that the show will have a memorable conclusion.
He said: “There have been times we tried to honor what the fans most want. Ring the bell loud enough, and there’s a good chance they’ll get what they want. We all want to go out with a bang.”
