BLUE Bloods has made the decision to kill off a fan-favorite character after the actors tragic real-life death.

The CBS drama will say goodbye to actor Treat Williams, who has played a variety of characters on the series, on March 1.

Treat’s role as Lenny Ross found him most recently admitting to Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) that he had cancer.

This set up a tearful storyline that’s set to come full circle with the episode soon to air.

Fans are understandably distraught by the events set to happen.

They’ve been preparing for the eventuality since the late Treat Williams passed away after a motorcycle accident at the age of 71.

“We will probably need to have our Kleenex ready for this Friday’s episode of #BlueBloods,” one fan wrote.

“I really liked him! He was in Chicago Fire also as severide’s father,” one upset fan commented about Treat.

One viewer simply left a broken heart emoji to express their feelings.

The episode will feature a tribute to Treat’s character Lenny.

It’s called Fear No Evil, and Frank will be seen struggling with what to do with the loss of his best friend Lenny.

He’ll also have to figure out how to help Lenny’s daughter Tess (Simone Policano) when she lands in hot water.

FAN FAVORITE

Many fans have been wondering why Blue Bloods was canceled in the first place.

Despite its success, the hit television series is being canceled after nearly 15 years on air.

Entertainment Weekly reported the cancellation in November 2023, confirming that the show will conclude after its 14th season.

According to the outlet, Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, president of CBS Studios, said the hit show would “forever be a beloved part of CBS’ legacy” in a joint statement.

“It ruled Friday nights with unprecedented dominance since its premiere and established itself as a pillar of our winning lineup with an exceptionally devoted fan base,” they said.

They thanked the cast and crew headed by Selleck, “who America embraced as family and watched as welcomed guests at the Reagan dinner table.”

Per the outlet, the crime series was “Friday’s No. 1 primetime program and No. 3 broadcast drama with 9.54 million viewers during the 2022-23 season.”

It was created by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess.

THE FINAL GOODBYE

The 14th and final season of Blue Bloods premiered its first part on Friday, February 16.

Part one included 10 episodes, but there are still more to come after that.

The second part will consist of eight episodes and will premiere in September 2024.

Viewers can also stream the series via Pluto, Hulu, Paramount+, and Philo.

Blue Bloods debuted its first season on September 24, 2010.

As Entertainment Weekly reported in November 2023, Tom Selleck spoke highly of his experience with Blue Bloods in a statement.

“For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,” he said,

“Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew has been a dream come true. I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes.

“Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support, and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”

In January 2024, the actor spoke with TV Insider about the show’s conclusion, suggesting that he does not want the series to end yet.

“CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it. The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas,” he said when asked how he felt about the show ending.
