It’s Friday night, and that means we should sit down to dinner with the Reagan family. Sadly, we have a lot of bad news about Blue Bloods tonight, Friday, Dec. 20.
To start with, there isn’t a new episode of the series tonight. Last Friday’s episode was the last one.
Now this is usually when the show goes on a break. We expect some time off over Christmas and New Year as this is when the linear ratings take a hit while people spend time with family. This is where we have a lot of bad news for all Blue Bloods fans.
CBS didn’t U-turn on the Blue Bloods cancellation
We fought hard. Sadly, Blue Bloods has said goodbye. The previous episode wasn’t just the midseason finale or a season finale. It was the series finale. The show isn’t coming back.
That’s why it was such a big episode. It’s why we had so much drama and intensity. Did the ending work? I think we all have our own opinions on that. For me, it worked. The writers took care with the characters knowing how much this ending meant to us—and how much we didn’t want it to happen!
We would have loved to see CBS U-turn on the cancellation. After all, the show is still doing well in the linear ratings, and the main cast still wants to do it. We would have loved to see it get to 15 seasons, a milestone for any series.
Could a Blue Bloods spin-off happen?
There were some talks about a spin-off happening. So far, there’s been no further word on this, but it’s something that CBS is still considering. That’s great news for those who would love to delve further into the Reagan family.
Those sharing news of the spin-off didn’t say which character it would be focused on. We know it won’t be Frank or Danny, though. There is hope that we could see some of the younger members of the family following in the Reagan footsteps.
For now, our eyes are on the potential future. We hope to see some positive news about the Blue Bloods spin-off series soon.
