It’s a period of mixed feelings for Blue Bloods fans as filming for the final season wraps up. The American police procedural television series has entertained audiences since its September 24, 2010 premiere. 14 seasons later, the popular CBS series is ready to drape the curtain on the amazing cast performances.

Blue Bloods follows the fictional Irish-American Reagan family and their enduring work history in law enforcement. The show’s unique blend of family drama and law enforcement operations retained a devoted fanbase for over 14 years. However, despite protests from heartbroken fans over the cancellation, CBS insists that the show must end. Blue Bloods revolves around the Reagans, a family of cops who reside in New York. Originally Irish Catholics, the Reagan family is known for their service in the police and legal departments which has lingered for many decades. Frank Reagan stepped into his father’s big shoes as the New York Police Department Police Commissioner while his son, Danny is a detective in the police department. Jamie, the youngest son of the Reagan family, is an NYPD sergeant and a Harvard graduate.

Erin is the only daughter of the Reagan family who serves in law enforcement as the Assistant District Attorney. Also, Frank’s oldest son, Joe, was murdered in the line of duty by a crooked cop while digging into a corrupt group of NYPD cops. The show interweaves the personal and professional lives of the Reagans with their partners and counterparts, rendering a unique perspective in the genre.

Returning Stars For Blue Bloods Final Season

The original cast of the show will return for the last leg. Thus, Donnie Wahlberg (Detective Danny Reagan), Tom Selleck (Commissioner Frank Reagan), Bridget Moynahan (Attorney Erin Reagan), Will Estes (Sergeant Jamie Reagan), and Len Cariou (Henry Reagan), are all returning for the final run. Also joining the main cast is Vanessa Ray who first appeared on the show in a recurring role as Officer Edith “Eddie” Janko in season 4.

Marisa Ramirez is on the recurring cast list as Detective 1st Grade Maria Baez alongside Stephanie Kurtzuba as Captain Paula McNichols, Abigail Hawk as Detective 1st Grade Abigail Baker, and Gregory Jbara as Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Garrett Moore among others. Blue Bloods’ final season also features a star-studded guest cast with Malik Yoba as Darryl Reid, Jennifer Esposito as Jackie Curatola, and Aidan Quinn as Detective Gus Vanderlip.

What is Blue Bloods’ Final Season Release Date?

Though it has fewer episodes than most of the previous seasons, Blue Bloods season 14 comes in two parts. Made up of 10 episodes, the first part aired between February 16, 2024, and May 17, 2024. The series will return in October 2024 with the second part which consists of 8 episodes. The final episode will air in December 2024 despite desperate calls to continue the show. Cast and Fans Bid Emotional Farewell To Blue Bloods

Following the show’s cancellation in November 2023, pleas from fans to continue Blue Bloods fell on deaf ears. During a press conference, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach reasserted that the show will come to a wrap in season 14. “All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December,” she said.

Consequently, June 20, 2024, marked the last day of filming with Blue Bloods cast and fans sharing their thoughts. Wahlberg, Ramirez, and Ray took to social media to pay tribute to the long-running show. While Ray shared a picture of the three hugging it out with the caption: “I love them so much it hurts,” Wahlberg went all out to thank everyone who worked on the show and the audiences who stayed devoted for over 14 years.

“Last day of Blue Bloods. Not sure I have the words to describe how I feel about today, or the last 14 years on this special Blue Bloods journey, but I do know how incredibly thankful I am for every moment of it. To the cast, the crew, the guest cast, every background actor, writer, producer, and every member of every single dept — thank you,” he captioned an Instagram video of him coming out of a tour bus.
