‘Blue Bloods’ Final Dinner Scene Will Have Special Guests And ‘A Few Black Sheep’ At The Table

The Blue Bloods cast will officially say goodbye to the show with one final Reagan family dinner featuring a couple of special guests. Showrunner Kevin Wade teased that the final episode of the Tom Selleck-led series will see the return of some familiar faces at the dinner table.

“There are a few black sheep, including one who’s been with us on and off for many years,” he told TV Insider in an interview published on December 6. “I have to be vague here. There are blood relatives who we haven’t seen much of in a while who are present.”

For the final dinner scene, producers actually had to add on to the Reagans’ dinner table to fit everyone.

“I will say it’s a bigger table than usual,” Wade said. “The art department had to actually go into the wood shop and make an extra leaf!”

Based on the events of season 14, episode 17, we assume that one of the “black sheep” Wade is talking about is Jack Boyle. It seems like Erin Reagan and her ex-husband are officially back together after they were seen walking arm in arm in the penultimate episode. Erin mentioned that things were going “so well” between her and Jack. It would make sense for him to be at the final dinner if he is repairing his relationship with Erin, despite the fact that the other family members aren’t his biggest fans.

We also think most of the Reagan grandkids will be at the dinner table in the final scene. In episode 17, Sean announced that he would be graduating from college a year early, and it was a sweet moment for the whole family to celebrate. They each went around the table to give him advice about the next chapter of his life. He admitted he wasn’t sure about what he was going to do next, but it doesn’t seem like he is interested in joining the police force like the rest of his family.

There are other faces who have been staples in the franchise that don’t usually sit at the dinner table, but we think they could potentially make an appearance, like Maria Baez or Anthony Abetemarco. It would make a lot of sense to invite series favorites in for the final dinner as a perfect send-off for the series after 14 seasons.

As for the “most important” scenes that will be in the finale, Wade alluded to the fact that all of the Reagans will be involved in the same story line.

“[Cowriter] Siobhan Byrne O’Connor and I decided early that the finale that would work best for our wonderful large cast were stories where all of them are in pursuit of [the same] syndicate,” he explained. “So while each main character would have a separate alley to walk down, they were working toward finding the same criminal.”

“That makes for the most propulsive way we can tell all four stories at once,” Wade shared. “And of course, the family dinner scene took a lot of attention just in terms of who would be there and why and would anything be promised or revolved.”
