A Blue Bloods spin-off series is on the horizon with none other than Danny Reagan star Donnie Wahlberg leading the charge, as the story ventures beyond the familiar streets of New York.
After wrapping up its impressive 14-year tenure in December 2024, Blue Bloods bid farewell to the beloved Reagan family and their iconic family dinners, presided over by NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, portrayed by Tom Selleck.
Yet, the saga continues with the upcoming spin-off titled Boston Blue, slated to hit screens in the 2025-2026 season.
The new drama will shift focus to Commissioner Reagan’s fiery son, Detective Danny Reagan (played by Wahlberg), who finds himself transferred to Boston.
Upon his arrival, he’ll team up with Detective Lena Peters, described by CBS as “the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family,” mirroring his own background. Details about the plot and who will play Detective Peters remain under wraps.
No announcements have been made regarding other Blue Bloods cast members joining Boston Blue, but given that it’s pegged as a “universe expansion,” we might just catch glimpses of some familiar faces.
Before Blue Bloods concluded, Tom Selleck expressed his reluctance to say goodbye: “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back.”
So, it seems there’s a high probability that Boston Blue’s inaugural series will feature Danny reuniting with some of his kin.
Speculation is also rife that Danny might find love again.
In the heart-wrenching season eight opener, fans discovered that his wife Linda (Amy Carlson) had tragically perished in an off-screen helicopter crash, and he’d vowed to his grandfather Henry (Len Cariou) to try and settle down.
The finale of Blue Bloods saw him inviting his partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) for pizza, sparking rumours of a budding romance so will she accompany him to Boston?
The dramatic climax of season 14 involved a major shooting spree aimed at the mayor, resulting in the sad demise of Eddie Reagan’s (Vanessa Ray) partner Badillo (Ian Quinlan).
The final episode then wrapped up with a typical Reagan family dinner, where Eddie and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) revealed they were expecting their first child.
