Because F.A.S.T. isn’t some spinoff with dusty cowboys, it’s a gritty action thriller Sheridan actually wrote back in his Sicario and Hell or High Water era (the golden years).
The script’s been sitting for a decade, caught in the Hollywood version of purgatory passed from Time Warner to AT&T to streaming limbo and finally back to Warner Bros. Discovery just fast-tracked it with an April 23, 2027, release (per THR). That’s a long haul, but this one’s worth the wait.
But here’s the real kicker, Brandon Sklenar, the same guy who somehow survived 1923 is headlining. Even better, Beasts of the Southern Wild cinematographer Ben Richardson is making his directorial debut. That’s a serious glow-up.
F.A.S.T. follows a former special forces commando recruited by the DEA to take down CIA-protected drug dealers. It’s Sheridan going back to the kind of stories he used to tell — sharp, raw, and unapologetically tense.
Sheridan’s now “Paramount+ royalty,” but Warner Bros. made this project a top priority, even bending his exclusive deal to get him onboard. Producers from Heyday Films are in, and they’re still finalizing Sheridan’s role behind the scenes.
Frankly, if F.A.S.T. still has that 2010s Sheridan DNA before all the Yellowstone-verse spinoffs clogged his creative pipeline, I’m in. Because even if 1923 bored me to tears, I know what this guy can do when the script is tight and the stakes are real.

Starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton, 1923 returned in February and closed out its sophomore run with blood, chaos, and record-breaking numbers. Social media wasn’t quiet either, 163 million views, 8x more than Season 1.
It now stands among Paramount+’s top three global shows, joining Landman and Tulsa King. Critics are all in too, handing Season 2 a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
But is this the end, Paramount’s press release didn’t call it a series finale, leaving fans hopeful. And even if 1923 rides off, Sheridan’s universe barrels on with 1944 next in line. The Dutton legacy isn’t done and not even close.
