Harrison Ford saying he’s open to returning to the Yellowstone universe sincerely threw me. After everything Taylor Sheridan put Jacob Dutton through in 1923 — getting ambushed, nearly dying, and carrying the weight of the ranch like a total warhorse — I figured Ford was done.
I mean, he’s in his 80s and still pulling off grizzled frontier icon like it’s nothing. Now, I’m weirdly hoping Sheridan gives him what he wants, because let’s face it folks, who wouldn’t want one more round with Jacob Dutton?
Harrison Ford’s surprise condition for returning to Yellowstone is kind of wild
Harrison Ford says he’s game to returning as Jacob Dutton, and it’s pretty crazy given what Taylor Sheridan did to his arc in 1923. At an FYC event (via THR), Ford joked he’d come back if Sheridan asks him nicely. Referring to Jacob’s fate at the end of 1923 Season 2, he alluded,
I thought it was very tight storytelling and I was absolutely delighted with it. It’s probably the densest script and work that I’ve had a chance to work on in a long, long time…convinced that I was going to die so I was quite surprised I was still alive at the end of the show.
Now sure, Ford is a legend (Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, Star Wars) but 1923 did feel like a missed opportunity. His Jacob Dutton had all the setup to be epic, but Sheridan’s script didn’t give him the payoff. Ford should’ve made better writing his one condition for returning, not just a polite invite.
Jacob wrapped 1923 by handing the ranch to Spencer Dutton, who went full action hero against Donald Whitfield. And with Spencer’s story jumping forward in time, 1944 is set to pick up that torch. Ford could appear in flashbacks, or as a 100-year-old Dutton. Frankly, his impact wasn’t as massive as everyone hoped. He had presence, but not the punch. And with Sheridan reportedly planning 1944 next, I’d rather see a tight focus on Spencer and the next gen of Duttons.
Ford’s return could work if it’s to give Jacob a meaningful goodbye. A flashback sendoff like the Costner-Coleman moment in Yellowstone Season 2? I’d be on board for that.
But another season of just vibes and no story arc is surely a HARD pass. Legends deserve better and so do we. Give him the exit he earned… finally.
Harrison Ford almost became Batman and didn’t even know it
Harrison Ford nearly suited up as Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 game-changer, and he had no idea. When Josh Horowitz dropped the bomb that Ford was once on the studio’s shortlist for the role, Ford deadpanned (per FarOut Magazine), “Oh, s*it! I could’ve had a career!”
Turns out, Warner Bros. had quietly considered stars like Kevin Costner, Tom Selleck, and even Charlie Sheen. But none of it ever hit Ford’s radar. Before Michael Keaton landed the role of Batman, Pierce Brosnan had actually met Burton.
Flash forward to 2025: Ford finally dives into the superhero pool as Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World. Brosnan did Black Adam. Apparently, if you can’t beat ’em, cape up.
