Taylor Sheridan’S Hit Series ‘Landman’ Adds ‘Yellowstone’ Franchise Favorite To Season 2

Landman lead Billy Bob Thornton has teased the arrival of a Yellowstone and Western staple in the Taylor Sheridan drama series. Thanks to the likes of the neo-noir success that is Yellowstone and all its various spin-offs, Taylor Sheridan has now become a franchise all his own, with Landman being one of the writer, director, and producer’s other hits outside the world of the Duttons.

Now, Landman is looking to add Yellowstone universe star and Academy Award nominee Sam Elliott to the roster. After rumors of his casting, Billy Bob Thornton has now confirmed (via Deadline) that Elliott will join Landman Season 2 in a key role.

“I go way back with [Sam] to the mid-80s,” Thornton said of starring alongside Elliott in Landman Season 2. “Yes, I’m old.” Details of his role in the series are currently under wraps, but it is thought to be a main role, meaning that Elliott will join both Thornton and Demi Moore, the latter of whom will see her character given much more prominence when the series returns.

Sam Elliott is best known for roles in such classics as Road House, The Quick and the Dead, A Star is Born, Tombstone, The Big Lebowski, The Hero, Hulk, and more. In the world of Yellowstone, Elliott starred as Shea Brennan in the prequel spin-off series 1883 alongside Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Isabel May. During his conversation with Deadline, Thornton offered some insight into why he took on the lead role in Landman following a small role in Yellowstone’s 1883 alongside Elliott.

“At the premiere in Vegas, Taylor and I were sitting at dinner, and he said, ‘Listen, I’m writing this show. It’s called Landman. It’s about looking behind the curtain of the oil business. And I thought, well, that’s interesting, that hasn’t really been done before, at least not for a while. The thing that really appeals to me about the character, he’s someone who has the weight of his world on his shoulders every day of his life, and problems just come at him from every direction — including his family, friends, co-workers, everybody.”

Alongside Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, and Sam Elliott, Landman Season 2 stars Oscar nominee Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore. Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Landman is inspired by Wallace’s podcast “Boomtown,” and stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, an old-school landman for an oil company. Despite somewhat mixed reviews, the series has been another huge hit for both Sheridan and Paramount, landing 14.6 million viewers in its first week and becoming one of the streamer’s biggest debuts in years. “In the heart of Texas, roughnecks and billionaires try to get rich quick in the oil industry; Tommy Norris, a struggling executive, tries to take his company to the top during the fuel boom.”
