When it was announced that Blue Bloods season 14 would be the show’s last on CBS, many viewers were holding out hope that the beloved NYC-based drama series would get picked up by another network. Many shows in the past have been saved in that way, but was Blue Bloods one of them?
Was ‘Blue Bloods’ Picked Up By Another Network?
Blue Bloods was not picked up by another network despite the outrage the show’s cancellation on CBS caused. Tom Selleck, who played Frank Reagan on the show for more than a decade, said that he didn’t understand why the show didn’t just move to a streaming platform instead of canceling it entirely after 14 seasons.
“I can’t figure out why they didn’t start streaming it, do 10 episodes a year. But I’m not the boss,” the Emmy winner told Variety in December 2024, voicing his frustration over the decision. “Everybody wanted to come back. And I think with this cast, it would have been a gift for the audience. I don’t make those decisions. I’m prepared to celebrate and commemorate this show, but I’m still getting used to it.”
Abigail Hawk Shot Down the Idea That ‘Blue Bloods’ Would Be Picked Up By Another Network
Blue Bloods cast member Abigail Hawk, who portrayed Abigail Baker for all 14 seasons of the program, discussed the reason she didn’t think the show would be moving to another network.
“I don’t think there’s a possibility of it going to another network – I know that there’s been a bit of chatter about that, but I don’t think that that’s a viable option given the talks that we’ve had with the cast and the producers and things like that,” she told Hello! Magazine in October 2024 when season 14 was airing.
“But hope floats, and I think it’s necessary to have something to hang on to and we would all certainly drop everything and make that happen,” she added. “At the end of the day, CBS can do whatever they want, but I hope they realize not only how commercially viable Blue Bloods is, but how beloved it is, and the staying power that it has, because family is universal and there are more stories to be told.”
Will There Be a Season 15 of ‘Blue Bloods’?
Sadly, Blue Bloods is not returning for a season 15. The final episode of season 14 was marketed as the show’s series finale. Instead of a season 15, cast member Donnie Wahlberg signed on to lead an expansion series called Boston Blue. The show will air in the fall of 2025 on CBS, a teaser trailer shared on social media revealed.
Donnie initially said that he would only do a spinoff if it preserved the integrity of Blue Bloods.
“It’s going to be a very delicate dance to keep that integrity. Where’s the family going to be? They can’t be in New York. I would probably drive to New York from Ohio, if I was Danny, to go to every dinner and back,” he said. “Until we know that there’s absolutely no way this show can be resurrected somehow, I think we’re all walking forward … but taking a peek back.”
