Blue Bloods Spin-Off: Everything To Know About Donnie Wahlberg Drama So Far

A Blue Bloods spin-off is in the works with Danny Reagan star Donnie Wahlberg at the helm, taking the story away from the comfort of New York.

Blue Bloods ended its 14-year run in December 2024, saying goodbye to the Reagan family and their unforgettable family dinners, which were headed up by NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck).

Nevertheless, there is still more to come. A new Blue Bloods spin-off, Boston Blue, is now in the works, and the show is expected to premiere sometime in the 2025-2026 season.

This time, the drama will focus on Commissioner Reagan’s hotheaded son, Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), who will be transferred to Boston.

When he arrives, he’ll be partnered with Detective Lena Peters, who CBS has described as “the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family,” much like himself.

However, little else is known about the show’s subject matter, including who will portray Detective Peters.

No other cast members from Blue Bloods have been announced to join Boston Blue either, but as it has been labelled as a “universe expansion,” there is a good chance some familiar faces will show up.

Before Blue Bloods ended, actor Selleck stated that he wasn’t ready for it to be over: “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back.”

So it does seem that there is a good chance fans will see Danny reunite with some of his family members at some point during Boston Blue’s first series.

It is also thought that Danny could be in love at some point. In the season eight premiere, fans were devastated to learn that his wife Linda (Amy Carlson) had died in a helicopter crash off-screen and had promised his grandfather Henry (Len Cariou) that he would try to settle down.

Blue Bloods’ ending saw him ask his partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) out for pizza, hinting that it could be the start of a relationship. Will she follow him to Boston?

The season 14 finale also saw a major shooting spree targeting the mayor, with Eddie Reagan’s (Vanessa Ray) partner Badillo (Ian Quinlan) tragically killed.

The last episode ended with a typical Reagan family dinner with Eddie and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) announcing they were expecting their first child.
