He’S What In England We Call A Bloke: 1923’S Helen Mirren Describes Harrison Ford’S Off-Camera Behavior, And Says The Other Men On Set Always “Gather Around” Him

1923 star Helen Mirren sheds some light on co-star Harrison Ford’s on-set behavior, and how male cast members love him. A prequel spinoff to Taylor Sheridan’s hugely successful neo-Western Yellowstone, 1923 recently returned for season 2. Starring Mirren and Ford as ranch owners Cara and Jacob Dutton, 1923 has an ensemble cast and follows an earlier generation of the Dutton family as they face hardships including Prohibition, drought, and the Great Depression. Mirren has spoken about her experiences working with Ford, and how his unique on-set presence has influenced the show.

In an interview with People, Mirren opened up about working with Ford, who she first met while starring alongside him in 1986’s The Mosquito Coast. Mirren spoke in positive terms about Ford’s presence and character off-screen, mentioning how lovely he is to the other actors and calling him “such a bloke.” Check out Mirren’s full comments below:

Harrison is such a bloke. He’s what in England we call a bloke. He is a guy, and because he’s a bloke, all the other blokes absolutely love him, and quite rightfully… He’s always so lovely to all the other actors. And so we do all sit in the freezing cold on set, on funny, funky, little uncomfortable chairs, and the other guys just gather around Harrison because they just want to be in his company, I think.

What These Comments Mean For Ford’s Icon Status
One Of The Biggest & Most Influential Stars In Hollywood History

Mirren’s comments illustrate the presence and charisma Ford possesses, and how many younger actors look up to him as a legendary star. Ford’s filmography ranks as one of the best and most impressive in Hollywood history, and he has played some of the most iconic characters in popular culture, including Indiana Jones and Han Solo. These successful roles have given him an enigmatic and charismatic aura, and by the sounds of things, his legendary status has caused many of his 1923 co-stars to be somewhat starstruck.

Working on a popular TV show means being around co-stars for a prolonged period of time, and developing strong positive bonds with cast members can be integral to helping with this. It sounds from Mirren’s comments that she and Ford have enjoyed a positive relationship on set, and that he is seen as the father figure of the show. This could be to do with the approach he has chosen for his portrayal of Jacob Dutton, family patriarch, and this protective gravitas could well spread to his co-stars, cementing his iconic status.

The Star Has Taken Well To TV, & This Seems To Have Influenced His Positivity

Ford’s transition from blockbuster movies to scripted TV has been seamless, and his starring role in the Apple TV+ comedy-drama Shrinking only further supports that. With 1923 season 2 set to be the final season of the show, it could be the case that he appears in more TV projects in the future. Ford’s TV roles seem to have influenced him positively.
