Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence revealed how Harrison Ford insisted on being shirtless as Dr. Paul Rhoades for a certain scene, which he turned down at first.
‘[It was] the first time he had to do a shaving scene on the show, he called me up and he’s like, “I’m not going to shoot this,”‘ the 56-year-old showrunner recalled to People on Saturday.
‘”If I’m shaving, I have to be shirtless.” And I’m like, “Alright, you can be shirtless. What else do you need?” He goes, “Just 10 minutes to do some push-ups.”‘
And while Bill thought the 82-year-old Oscar nominee – who only eats fish and veggies – ‘looked good,’ he wound up ‘shaming’ him on the LA set.
‘I work on set shirtless now. Just trying to go head-to-head,’ Lawrence wisecracked.
Harrison previously called his gig as a grieving therapist suffering from Parkinson’s disease in the critically-acclaimed dramedy ‘the best job I’ve ever had.’
‘I live half an hour away. I go home and I sleep in my own bed,’ Ford gushed during PaleyLive’s An Evening of Shrinking on December 12.
‘I’m in the same town as my wife and children and I’m doing really smart, intelligent storytelling with incredibly talented people.’
On October 17, Apple TV+ officially renewed Shrinking for a third season.
The Chicago-born grandfather-of-three also went shirtless, with help from motion capture CGI, as President Thaddeus Ross’ Red Hulk alter ego in Captain America: Brave New World, which has already amassed $192.4M since hitting US theaters last Friday despite dismal reviews.
Harrison will next reprise his role as patriarch Jacob Dutton in the eight-episode second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spin-off 1923, which premieres February 23 on Paramount+.
Ford would ‘love to work’ with his third wife Calista Flockhart, but ‘we haven’t been offered something where we’d work together.’
The honorary Cannes Palme d’Or winner is 22 years older than the three-time Emmy nominee, but they’ve been happily married for 14 years after originally meeting during the 2002 Golden Globe Awards.
Calista currently stars as struggling farm matriarch Ella Tate in The New Group’s off-Broadway revival of Curse of the Starving Class, which runs through March 30 at The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre in Manhattan.
Christian Slater and Cooper Hoffman also star in the latest adaptation of Sam Shepard’s tragic OBIE award-winning play directed by Scott Elliott.
Harrison and Flockhart are proud parents of 24-year-old son Liam Flockhart Ford, who graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts in 2023.
Ford is also father to two sons – Ben, 58; and Willard, 55 – from his 15-year marriage to first ex-wife Mary Marquardt, which ended in 1979.
The honorary Golden Globe winner also fathered two children – son Malcolm, 37; and daughter Georgia, 34 – from his 20-year marriage to late second ex-wife Melissa Mathison, which ended in 2004.
