It looks like love might be in the air after all for Blue Bloods’ Danny Reagan and Maria Baez. In a new clip from the series finale, the former is seen asking the latter out for a bite to eat and we’re freaking out!
“I was actually just thinking about something that my grandfather said to me. Do you want to get a pizza?” Danny is seen asking Baez in a clip shared by TVLine on December 10.
We think this could be in reference to another clip from the finale that was shared in Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy on November 29, where Danny is seen having a candid chat with Henry Reagan.
“I always told you not to bring the job home,” Henry said in the clip, to which Danny responded, “I know, leave it in my locker after my tour.”
“But the problem now is…” Henry trailed off, with Danny chiming in to say, “That I don’t have anybody not to bring it home to.”
While asking Baez out for pizza could just be a casual thing, it would make sense if it ended up turning into Danny pouring his heart out about wanting someone to come home to at the end of the day. Plus, we’ve seen other relationships form between other characters on the show, so it wouldn’t be completely out of the question if we saw a workplace romance finally develop for the two.
Blue Bloods fans have been holding out hope of a potential Danny/Baez romance for the past few seasons of the series. Time is running out for the pair, as the series finale will air on December 13, giving them one last chance to solidify their romance.
Donnie Wahlberg, who has played Danny since 2010, said that he was not so convinced that the characters should date each other.
“They would not have storylines together because they wouldn’t be working cases. We’d never see them on screen together, and all they would do is make them fight,” the New Kids on the Block singer said during a December 5 interview with Swooon. “Danny and Baez, they don’t fight anymore. They get along so great.”
“See, Danny and Baez used to fight, but they were coworkers, so they had to keep working together. Then, they started to build a relationship and they no longer fought,” Donnie, 55, added. “But then everyone said, oh, they should get together now. But we don’t want them fighting anymore. And if they get together, they’re going to fight because that’s the only way you can make a relationship interesting is to make the couple fight. So if you don’t want them to fight, you kind of got to let go of the dream of them being a couple because they will fight.”
Donnie went on to say that “for all intents and purposes, Danny and Baez are already a couple. They go to dinner together, they hang out together. He’s godfather to her new baby. They’re already a couple.”
The Blue Bloods series finale will air on Friday, December 13, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
