‘Blue Bloods’: Danny & Baez, Should They Or Shouldn’T They? Donnie Wahlberg Weighs In

Time is running out on Blue Bloods for the CBS drama to answer perhaps its biggest romance-related question: Will partners Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) get together? (The finale airs December 13.) Well, when Wahlberg stopped by, Swooon had to get his take on whether they should.

The star had some pretty solid reasons for why they shouldn’t. “They would not have storylines together because they wouldn’t be working cases. We’d never see them onscreen together, and all they would do is make them fight,” he said. “Danny and Baez, they don’t fight anymore. They get along so great.”

He continued, “See, Danny and Baez used to fight, but they were coworkers, so they had to keep working together. Then, they started to build a relationship and they no longer fought. But then everyone said, oh, they should get together now. But we don’t want them fighting anymore. And if they get together, they’re going to fight because that’s the only way you can make a relationship interesting is to make the couple fight. So if you don’t want them to fight, you kind of got to let go of the dream of them being a couple because they will fight.”

Plus, as he sees it, “for all intents and purposes, Danny and Baez are already a couple. They go to dinner together, they hang out together. He’s godfather to her new baby. They’re already a couple.”

As he shared with TV Insider when the final Blue Bloods episodes started airing, “I think the audience at first was reluctant for a possible Danny and Baez relationship because of the loss of Linda. I think that was very traumatic for the viewers. It was also very traumatic for me personally, being a friend of Amy Carlson, and for the show. So I think for a long time everyone was very reluctant to even consider such a thing, but I think as the show is winding down, it’s become clear that they have a special partnership and a special bond.”

But as he told Swooon, “In terms of the onscreen romance, I’ll just say wait till the series finale. You may get a surprise. That’s all I’ll say. You may not get all the questions answered, but you’ll get a surprise.”
