Tom Selleck is rocking a new look months after Blue Bloods wrapped filming on its 14th and final season. The CBS icon was spotted out with a full beard while taking a drive in his pickup truck in California in photos snapped on Wednesday, December 4.
In Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy, it was revealed that Tom, 79, almost got rid of his signature mustache to play Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods.
“Back in 2010, Tom was handpicked for the role of Police Commissioner Frank Reagan by EP Leonard Goldberg … Tom almost shaved off his iconic mustache for the role, but network execs wanted to keep it,” host Nischelle Turner said during the November 29 episode.
Blue Bloods finished filming back in June, and fans are anxiously waiting to see the Magnum, P.I. alum lead the Reagan family in the final two episodes.
A Heartfelt Goodbye to ‘Blue Bloods’
Tom previously stepped out in New York City with his Blue Bloods costars to promote the second half of season 14, which began airing in October on CBS.
Moving On
The cast, including Tom, has been very vocal about not wanting the show to end.
“I’m kind of frustrated,” he told TV Insider in October. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.”
Missing His TV Family
As for what he will miss most about Blue Bloods, Tom didn’t hesitate. “The actors,” he said. “The family of actors is as close as the Reagan family and the characters that they play. There isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back. Most shows don’t end that way — there’s petty jealousy and all sorts of things — and we seemed to overcome that. It’s something for everybody to hang their hats on and be proud of.”
The End of an Era
The penultimate episode of Blue Bloods is set to air on CBS on Friday, December 6, at 10 p.m. ET, with the series finale slated for Friday, December 13, at 10 p.m. ET.
What’s Next?
There’s no telling what’s next for the star after Blue Bloods, but he did tease the possible revival of his Jesse Stone character.
“It looks like now I might have to write [a script for another movie.]. It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it,” he said. “Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later. But I need to regroup; I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing, I’m going to keep working.”
