The synopsis for Blue Bloods season 14, episode 14 reveals the return of two former cast members. With just five episodes to go, the long-running police procedural has been ticking off boxes in terms of offering audiences a sense of closure for the Reagan family and those they’ve been connected to over the years. Part of that has been bringing former Blue Bloods actors back for guest appearances, such as Jennifer Esposito in the role of Jackie Curatola.

The synopsis for Blue Bloods season 14, episode 14, which airs Friday, November 8 at 10 PM ET on CBS, reveals the return of Full House alum Lori Loughin as Grace Edwards and Tony winner Lauren Patten as Rachel Witten, the former partner of Eddie (Vanessa Ray). The synopsis for “New York Minute”, included below from CBS Entertainment, teases some tension between Frank (Tom Selleck) and Grace.

Danny and Baez scrutinize an art gallery suspected of selling counterfeit pieces after a detective investigating the establishment is murdered. Also, Eddie is conflicted when she discovers her former partner turned social worker, Rachel Witten (Lauren Patten), crossed the line to get a mentally ill client much-needed help; and Frank is upset when an award Danny was to be honored with is rescinded by Grace Edwards (Lori Loughlin), the widow of an NYPD officer killed in the line of duty.

What The Returns For Blue Bloods Season 14
A Common Thread Continues

Loughlin is among the familiar faces to guest star on Blue Bloods, having last appeared in 2016. When viewers first met the character, back in the season 7 premiere, Grace was already widowed. And, motivated by this loss, she begged Frank not to let her son Louis (David Castro) join the force. Frank shows sympathy for Grace’s fear of losing her son, but he denies her request. She then responds with anger and the two part on bad terms. Interestingly, now Frank has something to ask of Grace.

As for Patten, a Tony-winning performer for her role in the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill, she has a far longer history with the CBS series, making a total of more than a dozen appearances over the course of six seasons. Patten’s character, Officer Witten, first appeared in season 8 and was last seen in season 13.

The episode, which is written by Nicole Abraham & Jack Ciapciak, and directed by Ralph Hemecker, looks to tug on a common thread that Blue Bloods has explored in which recurring and guest characters are brought in to hold up a mirror to the central Reagan family and confront them when necessary. The resolution for Grace and Rachel, who may have broken some rules to help a person in need, may not be simple and it may not paint Frank and Eddie in a favorable light. But it is necessary.
