Kevin Costner Says He Would Be Open To A ‘Yellowstone’ Return: “Staying Open… That’S How I Like To Live”

Could there ever be another chapter of John Dutton in the Yellowstone universe?

The second half of Season 5, the series finale, is set to premiere on November 10th this year, and we know that Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton WON’T be there. Whether he dies or is away doing Governor things, or whatever other creative way Taylor Sheridan wrote him out of the script, it doesn’t really matter. All we know is that he won’t be there and that’s enough for some fans to be doe with the show.

And one might think the same of Kevin Costner, himself, but it would be wrong.

In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, he said that he would be opening to returning in some capacity (I’d imagine it would have to be a spinoff series since this one is wrapped). He adds that he hasn’t discussed it with Taylor or anyone else, but he believes is keeping doors open:

“I don’t know what I’m going to be doing, I’m gonna be up to something, I’m so glad for them that they found their way.”

“No, there haven’t been but I think in your life, you stay open. We all know how to shut doors, we all know how to keep them shut, but I think staying open, there’s always those things… that’s how I like to live.”

How about it? Would you like to see Kevin return to the Yellowstone universe in some capacity? They have already green lit another prequel series with the working title 1944, so could he make a return to that? I wouldn’t hate it. You figure John Dutton wasn’t born yet in 1944, but maybe some flash forward scenes… who knows. For Kevin though, everything is still on the table.

In the meantime, you can catch up on Yellowstone with this 34-minute recap of Seasons 1-5.
