“I Couldn’T Be Happier”: Kevin Costner Won’T Like What His Yellowstone Co-Star Has Revealed About Season 5 Part 2 Finale

Amidst all the blues of having Kevin Costner leave the saga in an incredibly messy exit, Yellowstone fans finally have something to rejoice about: The second part of season 5 will soon be hitting the screens. After the tremendous viewership numbers of the first part, this upcoming second part is just about as anticipated by fans, if not more.

With this concluding part’s release right around the corner, while there’s pretty much no room for the John Dutton III portrayer to appear in these remaining episodes, the cast still has high hopes for the finale. That said, Kayce portrayer Luke Grimes had something encouragingly positive to say about the season 5 part 2 finale, but Costner might not be too happy about it.

Luke Grimes Shares a Positive Update on Yellowstone Finale Amid Kevin Costner’s Exit

Almost two years after the first part of this fifth and final season of Taylor Sheridan‘s fan-favorite Western saga, the second part will be continuing the story previously teased and will land the final conclusive arc of what happens to the Dutton family and their ranch. And it sounds like the series will have a finale that seemingly serves just fine even without John Dutton III.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the cast got together to discuss the finale of Yellowstone, which recently had its filming wrapped up. It was revealed during this that while Kelly Reilly knew how it would all end from season one, co-star Luke Grimes confessed that he found it out the day before starting the shoot.

Sharing a positive update on this forthcoming concluding arc, Grimes told EW:

I read the last episode the day before we started filming. I couldn’t be happier. I think it’s a perfect ending for the show for every character. It’s just a testament to what a good writer Taylor is, and it’s a very, very profound, beautiful ending. I can’t wait to sit down and watch it one day.

Of course, for the fans, this comes as a promising update that they won’t be left disappointed. But for Costner, who ended up following a really messy exit out of the show, this won’t really come as a happy update. To say the least, the actor just may be offended to know that, even after all the time and efforts he gave the saga, it will be having the perfect end without him.

Kevin Costner’s Exit Has Made Beth’s Desire to Protect Her Family’s Lineage “More Urgent”

While Grimes’ statement may end up offending Kevin Costner, someone else seems to have earned an even more important place in the Dutton family amid John Dutton’s exit. This “someone else” is none other than Beth Dutton, who was last told by her father that he needed her to fight “everyone” to protect her family’s lineage.

Since then, she has taken it all to heart and has transformed into his “most loyal soldier,” with the character’s portrayer Kelly Reilly saying about Beth: “It is unwavering, her devotion to protecting this place, even if it’s a place that has caused her so much sadness in her life. […] She ended the last episode saying we’re at war. She keeps her promise.”

That’s not all. Adding to this, Reilly further didn’t hesitate to emphasize that, even amidst John’s absence due to Costner’s unforeseen exit, the Dutton lineage will still have its formidable female warrior up for a fight, saying:

It changes nothing as far as Beth’s desire to protect her family’s lineage. In fact it becomes more urgent.

All of this being said, it’s inevitable that there’s some peak drama, action, blood, and tears incoming through this soon-to-be-released part 2 of season 5 of Sheridan’s ranch-y Western. While it would be interesting to know what happens to Costner’s John Dutton, fans might as well rest assured of all feelings of being disappointed or anything of the like with the series finale.

Yellowstone season 5 part 2 returns on November 10 on Paramount Network.
