Taylor Sheridan’s magnum opus Yellowstone is all set to end with the second part of its fifth and final season premiering this November. The neo-Western has seen as much drama behind the scenes as on screen, with series lead Kevin Costner exiting the show after conflicts with the studio.
While the world awaits how the Dutton family will save their ranch, creator Sheridan might have just spoiled his own show by failing to control one news from going out. With a potential sixth season focusing on Beth and Rip being in the works, Sheridan may have just spoiled the ending arc of Wes Bentley’s Jamie Dutton.
Did Taylor Sheridan Just Reveal The Fate Of Wes Bentley In Yellowstone Finale?
The first part of Yellowstone Season 5 ended with Wes Bentley’s Jamie Dutton and Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton declaring war on each other as the former proceeded to impeach the family patriarch John Dutton. With Kevin Costner not returning, the teaser of the final second part revealed the focus to be on this war between the siblings.
However, creator Taylor Sheridan may have already spoiled the ending of the show. Deadline reported a few days ago that a potential sixth season was being developed, focusing on Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler. Though not confirmed, the studio was reportedly negotiating contracts with actors Reilly and Hauser.
This announcement basically revealed that Beth and Rip would be surviving the fifth season and Bentley’s Jamie might just die. The actor stated that the second part would directly take off from part 1’s ending and would see both characters at an emotional high. He said to EW,
Jamie’s the most raw he’s ever been and the most vulnerable. He’s the angriest he’s ever been.
While the show still has many more spinoffs in the works and the sixth season might pay off, Taylor Sheridan may have made a terrible mistake by letting this news out.
Wes Bentley Himself Was Not Sure If Jamie Dutton Would Survive Yellowstone’s End
Wes Bentley has played a variety of characters in his career. Be it his breakthrough role in The Hunger Games franchise or his short but memorable role as Dr. Doyle in Interstellar, Bentley has always given notable performances. However, his toughest role might just be Jamie Dutton in Yellowstone.
The last two seasons of the show have been extremely strenuous on Bentley’s character. Apart from having to kill her biological father to make sure he is on good terms with the Dutton family, he is being threatened by Beth and is set to impeach his adoptive father. Bentley actually mentioned that he did not think Jamie would last the show (via Deadline).
I think he has seen himself [dead] from before the beginning of the season. He’s already end-gamed what is happening to him. He knows what’s coming and he’s trying to get what he can out of it by making some moves and taking opportunities.
With a potential season 6 in the works with Beth and Rip leading the show, the fifth season might just bid Jamie goodbye.
