Kevin Costner was seen on a rare public outing with one of his teenage children after returning to the US on Monday.

The 69-year-old Horizon star was pictured out in Summerland, California, as he leaned in for an affectionate hug with his 17-year-old son Cayden after they had lunch together.

The father–son duo were seen heading into the parking lot after having a bite at the Summerland Beach Cafe in Santa Barbara County, which wasn’t too far from the sprawling compound where Kevin lives with his minor children, including his 15-year-old son Hayes and 14-year-old daughter Grace.

The director and Yellowstone actor had returned to California after he shared photos of himself soaking up some sun on a yacht off the coast of Italy earlier this month.

The filmmaker — whose recent Western epic disappointed at the box office — shares Cayden and his two other youngest children with his ex Christine Baumgartner, with whom he had been engaged in a ‘crushing’ divorce fight since her filing in May of 2023.

Kevin was dressed in similar attire to his time sailing with a set of beige shorts highlighting his tanned legs.

The leading man paired it with a summery white dress shirt with sleeves rolled halfway up his forearms, along with a pair of black sunglasses and flip flops.

Cayden favored more voluminous clothing with a set of baggy jeans, a black short-sleeve button-up shirt and a camouflage bandana over his hair.

He added a splash of color with a sporty set of orange sunglasses that stood out.

As Kevin and Cayden prepared to part, they reached out for a hug before going their separate ways.

Earlier this month, Kevin was seen beaming in care-free photos taken on the deck of a vessel from the Italian company Pardo Yachts that he posted to Instagram.

Kevin got plenty of praise in the comments for his movie-star looks and his short shorts, with the Chrisley Knows Best star Savannah Chrisley jumping into the comments with a flirty message.

‘The smile he gives when he sees me for the first time,’ she wrote, adding smiley face and crying laughing emoji.

The JFK star’s public outings with his children are fairly rare, though he and several of his children put on a public face in June at the premiere of the first film in his series Horizon: An American Saga.

His three youngest kids were thrust into the spotlight amid his brutal divorce from his second wife, Christine Baumgartner, whom he tied the knot with in 2004.

After filing for divorce in May 2023, Christine initially refused to vacate the family’s Santa Barbara home, despite being required to under the terms of the couple’s prenuptial agreement.

The exes both sought joint custody of their three children. Christine was eventually awarded $63,209 per month in child support, which was far less than the $165,000 per month that she had initially requested.

Costner is also father to Annie, 40; Lily, 36; and Joe, 36 — whom he welcomed with ex-wife, Cindy Silva. He also shares his son Liam, 26, with his ex Bridget Rooney.

The filmmaker has already finished the second film in his Horizon series when the first premiered earlier this summer, though its release date was taken off distributor New Line Cinema’s release calendar after Chapter 1 failed to make back its $50 million budget.

Costner reportedly began principal photography on Chapter 3 of the series in May of this year, and an expected fourth and final film is already in development, though the commercial success of the preceding sequels may affect its fate.
